Is the Ferrari F430 THE BEST Supercar DEAL RIGHT NOW?

The Ferrari F430 is a outstanding supercar that is easily found for under $100K. The styling is still very modern as it's it's performance. Combine that with well documented DIY support and easy to maintain, and it's a home run to buy. Not to mention it's very likely at the bottom of it's depreciation curve.

The R8 V10 can be bought with a gated manual transmission for under 100k, and those are probably near the bottom of the depreciation curve right about now. I'm biased here, but it's definitely a much more practical car with less maintenance, more ground clearance, and more comfort for road trips. That said, I've also had the chance to drive a F430 and there's just something about it that makes it more exciting in a different way than shifting your own gears. Maybe an aftermarket exhaust will fix that for me in the R8, but until I can get a house with a larger lot, I don't want to be that guy that wakes up the neighbors every morning at 6 am when pulling out for work. Both are great cars in their own ways.

A year ago when I got my 430 was probably one of the best days of my life and every time drive it I still get excited. Can’t put a price on pure joy!

EDIT: The Viper V-10 is not a truck engine. It was designed from the ground up as a collaboration between Chrysler and Lamborghini specifically for the Viper.

So I'm with you here, but I went with the 360 for my first F-car. This was due to several factors, but I'll admit a huge one was its curvy-style. I spent a lot of time to find a well loved, enthusiast owned, and often-driven 360, and that was the BIG problem when searching for the 360. I feel you must have a well-owned and documented 360 to hedge your bets on a positive ownership experience, and of course maintaining it's value. The sound of the 360's v8 is also HUGE, its amazing, its iconic, mine has Fabspeed headers and a Tubi muffler/exhaust, glorious, like super glorious. I think the F430's sounds good too, but I prefer the sound of the 360. If my 360 experience goes well I do expect to change for an F430 at some point, but for my set of factors and personal preference the 360 is my first Ferrari, and I'm super happy about that choice so far!

360 rear end looks better than the 430 imo

The vipers V10 is not a truck engine! It was originally developed specifically for the introduction of the viper. Eventually they did put it into som RT10 trucks, but it was a viper motor first. Plus even in the truck, the valve covers still say viper paying homage to the its viper lineage;)

While I agree the 430 is miles ahead mechanically to the 360, the styling is awkward. The 360 is a completely harmonious and flowing design. The squared off design elements of the 430 look out of place. And the front bumper, Yikes! Jeremy Clarkson was right. The 430 is the idiots Ferrari. Ok, I have had my fun. Nice job Dan!

Agreed with everything you stated. I loved my 550 but the age and maintenance was getting old. It was in the shop longer than I drove it at times. The F430 is now a blast and much less maintenance! Sounds amazing, looks great, performs flawlessly. The F430 is a huge bang for the buck currently! +1 the FCA is a main reason why I love Ferrari. So many fun events, good people, etc.

I own a 430 and the car is amazing. I like the styling and before I bought I looked at the 360 but the timing belt change was an issue. I was also looking at an early 70’s Porsche but went with the 430. Your advice and guide helped me make my decision. Before you buy make sure you look at what the insurance costs will be. Hagerty is what I went with but as a first time super car owner they usually want you to have owned an insured super car for at least a year before they accept you. I had a very clean record with my old British sport car and my vintage motorcycle I had with them plus I had gone through the Skip Barber racing school. The price of the policy is a good deal compared to other companies. They also like to see your car in a locked garage. A guy in my same city keeps his 430 in an open driveway. That’s crazy. You have to respect the power these cars have and you could easily lose control if don’t know what you are doing. The more you drive it the more you will learn more about the car. I thought the 430 was a good investment and I hope they increase in value. Look what happened to the Dino’s. For any reason if I have to sell it I would probably get my money back. I bought one with 14, 000 mile with a clean Carfax. I joined the Ferrari club and someday I would like to take it on a track.

F430 are great cars. I wish they made equally the same amount of production for gated manuals, so they would be under 100k too.

Great video. The F430 will depreciate more over the next 4 years, but it is getting close. The California is absolutely gorgeous, but just a different style car. Much more modern than the F430. The California will depreciate more thanks to all the insecure individuals that try to diminish the California and have never spent time in one.

I’m glad that you compared the F430 to the Cali, because those two are my choices. I keep arguing with myself that the Cali is the better buy, because it is much newer, modern, etc. For about the same $$$$, plus it can go topless and I like the looks. The F430 is just such a beautiful car that it likely will be my choice. I still have 5 more years to decide before I purchase, so the Cali may come down in price by then. One question, are the differences and improvements from the 430 to the 458 as substantial as those between the 360 to the 430? Thanks.

Price update: November 30 2021 430 is about $125, 000 and 458 is $240, 000. California’s (not the newer T’s) went from $90’s to $120’s.

Thank you for not saying guh LAR dough.
I drove an 09 R8 this weekend here in San Antonio at the Audi dealer, was only $53, 000.
What a boring driving experience...and that’s what I liked about it, no drama like my Ferrari, you just got in it and go.
And I totally agree with you about that Ferrari community is a unique and enjoyable experience.
