It really shows how rare this sighting is since there is barely any footage of this beautiful occurrence. I witnessed this myself when i was about 8 years old in utah. They just grabbed onto eachother then slowly spiraled down the the very center of our cul de sac, as soon as they landed they hopped up and flew off side by side. I was truly amazed!

I find it amazing how they have to practice to learn how to do this.

For people arguing in the comments:

Yes, eagles use this tactic for BOTH fighting AND courtship. Not sure about the particular spiral shown in this video, it looks like a courting flight to me (they're too coordinated to be fighting), but at a glance the two behaviors look the same.

What these exact eagles were doing isn't the point. The point is to show off a spectacular display that is used for courting.

Also, they aren't strictly mating. They're just checking each other out, like how humans (tend to) go on dates before actually copulating. They'll mate in a tree, most likely, after doing this dance.

I’ve seen this twice. it’s absolutely amazing! They spun and fell fast from great height and separated just above the ground. The second time I didn’t see them spin, but they separated just above the hood of my truck while I was driving. It is a courtship display. I asked an ornithologist about it.

I saw this happen today and it was probably one of the happiest experiences of my life

Why is this so adorable and maybe gives me personal hope?

it’s literally their way of seeing if the other one is worth their full trust or not. nature is wild❤

I saw two pairs here yesterday. Nova Scotia Canada. They "danced" for quite a little while.

Seems like daredevil trapeze artistry…only the brave and mate-ready dare to do it. I can see why they practise, ya better hold onto yer gal tight!

"it takes time and practice to be a good partner" i think we could apply this to humans, too ❤

Definitely not what the animal channel taught me. They are competing from what I heard.

I've watched Red-tailed Hawks mate in air several times. It's always very interesting to watch. They first circle each other a few times --- which looks from the ground to be at different altitudes (but still "close") before the male *_VERY CAREFULLY_* "lands" on the female's back to do the mating.
Keep your eyes to the sky ---- you never know what you can see in nature!

I saw 2 eagles grab each other and do like 10+ spirals down, holding closer and closer while gaining speed over guessing 40 ft drop, it was incredible. I am coming here now to see what that was all about. Those Eagles were going to bang the shit out of each other. Little eagles were also learning to fly that day it looked like.
