Random fact:

It takes a photon 200, 000 years to travel from the core of the Sun to the surface, then just a little over 8 minutes from the Sun’s surface to your eyeball.

From Vancouver to Seoul just after a 5 hours flight from Montreal to Vancouver twice, quite a long run, on top of that they take a longer northern route apparently to be as much as possible always to a minimum distance from a land in case of emergency landing needs!

The aircraft sets it's flight level in conjunction with the prevailing winds. If the jet stream is about 35000ft providing it is blowing in a similar direction to the aircrafts route, they save fuel and time. However, if they travelling in the opposite direction, they try to fligh either higher or lower.

My longest flight is 25 hours. Due to bad weather, it flew back to original country with bumpy ride (so scary). Around 1999.
