Yes of course there's a difference, and to someone who doesn't have much knowledge on the Speed 3 then here's some good information on what's different to it from a Mazda 3!

I love the look of the 1st gen speed3 and 3. Have a 1st gen 3 myself but i wish I had searched some more and got myself a speed. may just upgrade some parts but overall im still happy with it.

Just a couple of things I wanted to add/correct. Not to sound like I’m a YouTube warrior but (I also REALLY love Mazda’s so...):

1st Gen Mazda 3 was technically from 03-09. The 07-09 were the face lifted first gens. The interior was mostly the same except from 08.5-09. That’s when you will see the grey plastic interior parts on your car turn to a glossy-black. The cars were the replacements for the, then compact, Mazda Protege; and I guess you could say the Mazdaspeed 3 was a replacement to the Mazdaspeed Protege, that stopped in 2003 with the base car. You are right about the bumpers not fitting on the sedans, it won’t happen without a TREMENDOUS amount of work (I was definitely butthurt because I saw a few guys in Russia that pulled off the bumper swap, and I definitely wanted it to happen, lol). It can kinda work with the hatch backs, since the MS3 is basically the 2.3 Sport hatch with a turbo and 6speed manual. Getting to first gen MS3, from 07-08.5, their interior is just like the Mazda 3’s minus the sport seats that are grey/black and have MAZDASPEED stitched into them. Also as far as the 1st Gen engine and transmissions: 2.0 and 2.3 were offered throughout all of the first gen, and they were only given the automatic or manual 5speed. The 6speed was reserved for the MS3 only. MS3’s also came with GNK limited slip diffs. I think they continued that into second gen as well. The 1st Gen MS3 does suffer from the VVTI failure problem but I’m almost certain they worked that out, in addition to strengthening pistons, the engine block, and the transmission itself for 2nd gen (2010-2014). You’re spot on about 2nd Gen feeling slower, because of the added weight of the base Mazda3 hatch it’s based off of from 2nd Generation, and all of extra weight from the new body panels, and that big ole functioning hood scoop.

Again I hope all this information helps. I don’t want to sound like a comment warrior but I did listen to the video and pause it close to the end so that I could remember my thoughts and start commenting. I wanted to give insight and helpful information to a fellow Mazda enthusiast. I have a GTI now I love my Mk.7, but boy if I could’ve found a 1st Gen MS3 (I would do second if I had no choice, that face is one only a mother could love 😂😂) that hadn’t been (horribly) modded and rode hard to hell and back in my area I would’ve scooped one up no question. I love the cars and the engineering that went into making them, definitely.

EDIT: I didn’t finish my point about the MS3 interior. From 08.5-09 models they had the black interior and the black seats with red Mazdaspeed stitched in the center as well as the Mazdaspeed along the little ‘style plate’ above the glove box (I can’t remember if you said that it came on the 07’s or not I know it’s on the 08.5-09 Speed3’s).

So I just brought a 2005 Mazda 3 it does says SP 2.3 on the side in red and have the tan interior but no turbo, is it still a Mazda speed?

Just incase people read the comments, there is NOT a difference in rear bumpers from the Speed vs MZ3 other than the obvious. They are both completely interchangeable, which is the info people want. Set your purse down and quit trying to sound smart. Side skirts bolt up. Rear bumpers bolt up. I havent tried front components other than headlights which are the same exchange which would mean fenders MIGHT bolt up. Hood and bumper are different at the separation, including the grill.

I have gen 1 manual. Clutch is sus so feels slow to get going and nothing much really happens. Sister has gen 2 auto feels way punchy and better

Honestly I thought the speed3 with its extra 100hp would make it a lot quicker off the line but 0-60mph the speed3 is like 6.3 seconds where as a 2.5L mazda3 is 8.0 seconds. That's like 56% more power but it's only 22% quicker AND it needs premium gas, too.

In my opinion when i was buying my car (I have a 2006 Mazda 3 Hatchback) I was choosing between the speed and the regular 3. So when i was buying a car i was looking for a car to build. Thats why i picked the regular 3 rather than the speed 3 because i would rather build my car than just buy it and already have the power. So when i do go out to competitions in the future i know that its all because of the hard work i put into my car. Rather than having it all stock. Im just starting my build and its so far really fun. If your like me leave me a like lol im curious
