Growing anti-migrant sentiment in Turkey has led to deadly clashes between citizens and refugees. Mobs have targeted workplaces and houses of Syrians.
And as the nation has been eyeing the Turkish general election scheduled for 2023, the issue of deporting refugees has dominated public debate.

Al Jazeera's Sinem Koseoglu reports from Istanbul.

Turkey has 5 million Syrians. The Syrians go with holidays back to Syria for 2-3 weeks holliday and than they return to Turkey. if Syria is dangerous how can you go to holliday? if you can go to holliday you can also stay in syria

Unfortunately Syrian refugees in Turkey and Europe (not all of them but good majority) has been deceiving the legal system in those countries and doing illegal operations from abusing the welfare system to running business with cash money only so they don’t declare how much income they are drawing in order to avoid taxes. I was feeling bad for them initially thinking they have been discriminated against but now I understand those countries governments and people position after I traveled and witnessed it first hand.

Feel bad for Syrians brother n sister.
Turks have valid point too.
Rich Arab countries have some shame and should share refugee with Europe and Turkey.

why don’t they speak Turkish? Why don’t they integrate? Why are their women covered in a way that’s not common in turkey?

I have no problems with Syrians whatsoever. However it would be nicer if you just realized that Turkey host more Syrian refugees than any other country and Turkey didn't have to do this. I love all Syrians who are grateful and respectful to my country but I cannot tolerate who are not. That doesn't have anything to do with racism

i mean turkey currently is the country who are hosting the most refugees in the world. they have to care for their own people as well. as an example i am from bangladesh which is also hosting more than a million rohingya refugees. initially we all wanted them to stay here till the situation in myanmar get solved. before it was an open border and all the citizens of bangladesh wanted them safe. but now many are also asking why the situation havent been resolved yet and why are they still here which is kinda understandable as we are already a densely populated country. i think its less of a xenophobia and more like wanting a solution. like why would some 3rd country have to help human lives when 2 completely different countries or people fight between each other. and lastly there will always be a min of 1% racist of the entire population in every country around the world.

I really don't like Turkey but I understand why Turks feel that way, the war is almost over they can go back to their own country no need for 5 Million People to continue to choke Turkey's economy, problem is that somebody wants those 5 million people in Turkey for that exact goal they want to destabilize Turkey both economically and culturally

Now Turks get the “xenophobic” label too?

Imagine living in turkey for more than 6 to 8 years and can't speak a single word Turkish sry but for those people they have chosen a wrong country I guess Saudi Arabia would be a wiser choice for them

Look, not wanting Syrians, Afghans and Pakistanis in our country has nothing to do with racism. These people are very contrary to our culture and way of life. We are hosting more than 10 million refugees and this is a very heavy burden for us. It's a big problem for our population. We cannot walk comfortably on our streets. Just because of this, there is a rising nationalist movement and even the far right in Turkey. We will shape politics in the future. We will rule the country. Enough. If these people are not sent to their country, very bad things will happen, very bad. If necessary, we will forcibly repatriate these people. Because none of them want to go voluntarily. Why? Because everything is free, they are in a privileged position in everything. understand us Turkey is not a refugee camp. The war in Syria is over. The war in Afghanistan is over. There is no war in Pakistan. Why are these people still here and keep coming?
