now I understand what it means to be a single-issue voter. whoever runs on fixing housing has my vote, houses are double what they were a few years ago. over a half mil for a starter house, with hundreds of people bidding

There is a actually a possibly simple fix: Ban banks, insurance companies, investment houses, etc. from owning single family houses. Simple as that. A bank should never own a home longer than a few months, if it goes into foreclosure. JP Morgan or Blackrock or Vanguard should never own a single family home. EVER. Homes are for families, not corporations.

Say it with me: "corporations should not own single-family homes"

my apartment i used to rent in college less than 8 years ago was $450 a month when i first moved in. i just looked at what it cost to live in that same apartment now, and it is $950 a month. the fact that not a single politician has even addressed this issue in my state tells you everything you need to know about politicians and how little they care about you. this is such an obviously unsustainable scenario

I'm a loan officer and I can tell you, it's absolutely horrendous right now. The rates are so high that you can't even use your equity in your home if you one. It's a complete disaster.

My wife and I rushed our way into a condo before the interest rate hikes. Thank god we did! We never could afford in the current climate. Many of our closest friends are now on the outside looking in and they make great money. What kind of country do we live in where people WITH money can’t afford a house? God forbid you’re living paycheck to paycheck - you’re forever screwed.

Most single-income households cannot afford to buy a home or even rent an apartment in a halfway decent/safe area. This won't end well.

Both parties have let this national disgrace go on for decades.

The question people should ask themselves is why this is going on all over the Western world at exactly the same time. There is a huge housing crisis everywhere all of a sudden.

Kennedy Jr. is talking about this, and he gets no coverage.😡

Houses near me start at $1 million and rent in a decent apartment starts at $2300, just moved back with my parents, paid off my debt, have one year emergency fund and saving as much as I can until things settle down. I’m 37 single no kids, some might look at me as a loser but I’m feeling fine lol good luck to everyone

Tax vacant properties exponentially. You own 1 vacant house 5% tax, 2 houses 10%, 3-20%, 4-40%. The more you hoard, the more you pay. They will be selling or renting properties at fire sale prices.

The best thing about Bidenomics is that nobody can say "It's not Biden's fault the economy sucks" It's literally in the name.

Yup, rent and housing is insane. Us here in Milwaukee can barely afford apartments that have barely seen updates since the early 2000s. How can we afford 'luxury' new apartments where the minimum rent is around $1, 800 for 1 bedroom. Can we just make more practical apartments, something around $700-800/month?

I watched the Tim Dillon pod where he interviewed RFK Jr. and his wife. RFK actually gave his thoughts on the issue and how he would fix it, especially targeted to first time homebuyers. I think his solution will help, but it’s not going to change the whole macro economy of housing. I’m glad he talked about it as he is the only one I’ve heard give any kind of solution. No one else has brought it up

Shelter is one of a person's most basic needs. To have a landlord is always being under threat of losing your shelter.

Thank you for keeping this issue on the table. The Wife and I moved back home with parents to stack up money until either we have enough to buy first home, or prices ease for what we can afford.

Houses here in Texas are readily available if you can afford a $550K, but not much out there for a single family home that is decent.

Very disheartening situation

I think institutional Money has been the biggest factor in the massive rise in housing prices. I don't know the fix. But I think there needs to be a SIGNIFICANT limit on single home and perhaps small number multifamily home purchases by conglomerates and institutional buyers.

Not just Biden, I'm turning on the US as a whole due to home prices. I'm planning to move out of the US to a country where I'd be able to afford a home to put children in one day.
