I was in a car wreck and I’m having problems with bright lights and sunlight and I bought my first pair and I love them soo far soo I hope they don’t go away …

Kering bought Lindberg last year and have not changed a thing. If you are a Maui Jim fan continue to be one. Just be thankful the Death Star did not purchase it.

Terrible and sad news. The magic will be lost for Maui. Good for money, bad for the users.

This makes sense! I work at a Sunglass Hut and they have been pulling multiple styles from the shelves which is what happened with Gucci back in the day. The Gucci quality stayed relatively the same so I’m hopeful for Maui!

I never like to see an indepentant company sale to a corp.but i get it. Look forward to seeing new eyewear from Maui Jim.

That unfortunate, the kawikas are still one of my favorite lines of shades to this day. Hope they don’t change too much.

Gucci eyewear’s quality went up when they took it back from Safilo. With Cartier, they introduced a bunch of new acetate styles right out of the gate, but the traditional rimless and horn / wood styles were scarce for a bit. Overall quality seemed to stay the same. Sad to hear this about Maui, but the rumors of a sale have been circulating for years. On the bright side, at least they didn’t go to Lux.

I’m really sad to hear that this is happening. I’ve been dreading this day. I always assumed it would be Luxottica…so that is a small bright spot that it is not. I feel like Maui’s excellent customer service will be the first thing to take a hit. Hopefully it won’t be as bad/non-existent as a Lux brand.
I agree with your assessment that glasses quality will probably be relatively stable for a year or maybe two. Optical quality will probably start to slowly slide after that. And I really doubt seeing much optical innovation going forward.

Cost accountants will replace optical engineers as the drivers of product development.

No matter what, no more buying Maui Jims by me. Prices will stay and even rise, but quality will drop. people will sell anything these days for the right price with no honor or pride. Fuck Maui Jim. Gotta find a new manufacturer.

They took away the bird logo in the Maui Jim sunglasses in stores, wondering about the quality of Maui Jim now

That explains the recent drop in quality, shipping, and packaging. Fail for the current quality compared to years past.

I just bought some kawika sunglasses. They said they come with a custom polarization. They look really nice and very expensive with prescription. Bought some just in time

Fell in love with maui jims when i first tried one out at a maui sunglass store in Maui. Was finally able to purchase a pair of Pericos and can never use anything else now. Cant wait to see the new styles but i know the quality will diminish a bit. Just have to really take care of my originals now.

That's sad. Maui Jim customer service is unparalleled and I'm sure that's going to change. Plus the best lenses I own have Maui Jim etched on them. Love to look through those Mauigreen lenses. Quality might go down as well so that's really not nice.

I bet they dont put mj lenses in their gucci sunglasses. People who buy gucci glasses are looking for face jewelery, not quality lenses. It makes no financial sense to use high end and more expensive mj lenses in a sunglass brand where customers dont care about lense quality. You can slap cheap cr39 plastic lenses and they wouldnt know the difference. Adding mj lenses just cuts into their profits. Plus, putting mj lenses in other brands makes mj less unique and it then becomes just another sunglass brand. In the end mj will be cheapend. Think i may switch to vuarnet or kaenon.

I've just recently bought my first (yep!) pair of Maui Jims and i must confess: after seeing this video i am now very, very concerned. Now, in my defense, i did buy a pair that pre-dates the acquisition by Kering Eyewer, so i can say it's still a genuine Maui Jim.
I am just bewildered as to why a well-established and renowned company such as Maui Jim would ever see the need to be acquired. I know that things aren't as straightforward as they may seem, but still i cannot grasp why.
Just another thing: were Maui's glass lenses always made in Italy?

At least it's an eyewear manufacturer instead of a hedge fund. It looks like Kering is trying to diversify its eyewear range to not include just fashion brands, kinda how Luxottica has Oakley.

Man, hope they stay the course on quality. Best brand imo . Had them on my hat the other day . A wasp flew by and I swatted my hat with all my might . The glasses flew off my head went straight into the cement . One lens flew out and I heard it hit the cement hard. Bounced several times. The lens didn’t break . I was repeating f$@# over and over again until I found the lens picked it up and it was fully in tact without any scratches. The frames have light abrasion marks . Lens popped back in all is well .
