Best breed ever. You will never be loved like the love your gsp will give you. They are easily trained and goofy. Age doesn’t slow them down my 11 1/2 year old still keeps up with my 4 year old gsp and 7 year Belgian malinois. ❤

Everything dude said is the truth. If you can handle the walkies and energy, a GSP will reward you back tenfold with loyalty, love, and fun. They were bred to be all-purpose dogs in Germany: pointers, retrievers, varminters and protectors. Had a couple that naturally just took the role of protector of my then-infant-toddler children.

My GSP, Dexter, died last month after 13 years of my life with him and our mouser cat, Bug. What a true friend, and what a HUGE commitment. I had a lifestyle on 29 acres and study quail for a living, and I waited 13 years to be ready to have that much emotional and physical room for that guy. I miss him so much. Bug does, too.

Wonderful breed! We have one solid liver (male) purebred GSP and a (female) GSP Spaniel/Lab rescue mix. We got the little rescue for our GSP to have a buddy and she is a great dog, but no match for his energy! He’s 8 and still goes like a 2 year old. I would like to add that they need lots of mental stimulation, as well. They are highly intelligent and get bored easily if not challenged. But give them lots of exercise, cuddles, and work and they are the best dogs! We had Weimaraners before, and loved them, but GSPs have my heart now.

I have a GSP and she's the best. These dogs need attention, space, and lots of activity. Otherwise they'll dig up the carpet, scratch up the walls, and chew up the furniture. At least mine did.

My dad's dog was named Palidan and he would hunt with him. My dad was about 5'5 about 200 pounds or more. One day when they were hunting my dad fell into a sink hole and could not get out. That dog put himself on the edge of that hole. My dad was able to grab him and he was strong enough to pull my dad out of that hole esentially saving his life.

These are wonderful dogs but the must get exercise and lots of it, if you live somewhere without a large area for them to run or you won't be running 5 to 10 miles a day it is not a good fit. Short walks do nothing for them. I have had 2 of these over the last 20yrs for reference. They also have a very strong prey drive
