Today in 1949 the Treaty of London was signed, establishing the Council of Europe. British Movietone reported on the event.

At St. James's Palace, delegates of ten nations meet to form the Council of Europe. Mr Bevin signed for Great Britain and other countries represented were France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Norway, Sweden, Italy, Eire, Holland and Denmark.
