Leaders of Egypt, Somalia, and Eritrea met in the Eritrean capital Asmara to discuss regional issues. Missing from the table was Ethiopia, a country with which all of the three nations are currently at odds with. The three leaders issued a statement, in which they mentioned the need for unequivocal respect for the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of the countries of the region. This sudden summit comes when tensions are simmering in the Horn of Africa over strained ties with Ethiopia. As Addis Ababa finds it more and more isolated, how will it respond? Could an axis against Ethiopia turn the tensions in the Horn of Africa into a wider conflict?

There is no anti-Ethiopian sentiment; rather, it is a joint solidarity based on the principle that African nations must respect colonial boundaries and each other’s sovereignty. The root cause of the problem lies in the blundering claims over another nation's land or territory, under the pretext of gaining access to the sea. This is being used by Ethiopia's Prime Minister as a distraction from internal issues. There is no problem with mutual respect and complementarity between nations.

Imagine a situation where people are struggling to live and work within different regions of Ethiopia, yet instead of focusing on internal healing, the priority has become exporting chaos across the region.
