Heritage Softail Classic Never Goes Out of Style

preview_player
Показать описание
The Heritage Softail Classic is on its 6th Harley-Davidson engine, which is quite impressive while changing very very little since 1986. The Heritage Softail Classic is Harley-Davidson's original Dyna Switchback even though it was never marketed as being reversible. The Heritage Softail Classic is also the original stop gap between a cruiser and a full on touring machine you can buy right off the show room floor. Despite being a such a long running and popular model the Heritage Softail never saw a CVO version or a Twin Cam 110 engine. You have your pick of your favorite engine with the Heritage Softail from the Evolution, Twin Cam or even the Milwaukee 8. Not to mention, these bikes even had a Springer version from Harley-Davidson!

Did Harley-Davidson do the Milwaukee 8 version of the Heritage Softail Classic justice or do you still prefer the Twin Cam and Evo years of the Heritage?

I always enjoy my 2009 Twincam Heritage Softail. And I appreciate learning from your channel. At 71 years old, I skipped 40 years of cycles due to raising my family and decided it was time to return to my 2 wheeled wing therapy. 2 years riding now with almost 5000 miles per year.

The early Evo and twin cam Heritage absolutely nailed the original Harley style with developing technology, the 1st Softail frame has something that the M8 one never will, It just sits different and is closer to that rigid look it pays homage to.

I bought my pristine 99 Evo Heritage in 2018 with just over 21k on the odometer. It may be the best $4k I ever spent. In fact, there isn't a single bike in HD's showroom today that I'd take in its place. I have a couple riding buddies that have dropped more $ on their exhaust, tuning and Chinese chrome skulls than I did for the bike and they spend more time chatting with me about my bike than they do about theirs.

I rode a 93 fatboy and then an 09 softail custom for years. In 2018 I bought a new Roadglide Ultra to see what the whole touring bike craze was like and to try out the new M8 engine. The bike was great and I enjoyed it until this spring 2024. I missed being behind a set of chrome bars and a chrome headlight. The Roadglide fairing is wondefull but honestly with all the plastic, stereo, navigation and stuff it just reminded me of being in the car. It is a heavy machine too. Having been on softails for almost 30 years I missed the simpler more raw biking experience. This Spring I traded the Roadglide ultra for a 2024 Heritage Classic. The M8 114 has great power, and the bike has a much sportier feel to it but yet you can still tour on it very comfortably. I think the M8 is a great engine. It's very torquey, smooth and responsive. I love it so far.

I have a 99 Evo springer (the silver striper) I went old school because I like the character and think that most “technology” is a) more stuff to go wrong, and b) just a way to make simple things complicated. Mine is 95% original (Has billet twin pot callipers) so one has to be happy with the size of your nether regions because you’re never going to be first away from the traffic lights, but it plonks along at 55-60 and does what it says on the tin. 👍

I have a 2003 Heritage Classic anniversary edition. Have put 49, 000 on it with room for many more miles. Will never part with it, and have grown up riding every bike I could find. Still the best thing on the road

I just got a 2024 Hydra-Glide Revival, which is a throwback nod to the old 1950s Hydra-Glide panheads. It’s actually a Heritage Classic all decked out like some of those others you showed, especially in the Evo era, with their conches, frills, and gorgeous two-tone tanks. I totally love it for its style, and for the Heritage Classic body and components.

I ride a '13 Fatboy, but i can't deny the allure and beauty of a wire wheel heritage.
