Someone should start a free outside library to put all those books in. We have 4 in our town and 3 in our neighboring town. It is one of those take a book and leave a book. I hate seeing books thrown in the trash.

It seriously boggles my mind why companies throw away perfectly good items like clothes and books and movies instead of donating them. Makes me so angry 😡

Cut clothing can be donated to a craft class for patchwork and suchlike also cut off any buttons all collectibles x

Great finds! I'm so glad you were able to save some stuff from going to the landfill - that's honestly always my biggest motivator if I dive. Unfortunately out here you see a lot of the mixing trash w/ salvagable goods.

Also I can confirm as an ex-employee of Half Price Books, EVERY SINGLE NIGHT we pulled at LEAST a huge box full of items to toss in the dumpster. It's all perfectly good, HPB just gets so much new inventory daily that they have to cycle product that often! It always crushed me, and I was so happy whenever our local divers came by. Happy hunting, everyone!!

I gotta say you make me so nervous lol the way you and other divers stand there and talk about the stuff and go through the stuff.. I say "grab and get gone" go through it all later at home or a parking lot or something lol keeps my nerves on edge girl🫣

A little insight to those who don’t know.. as someone who has worked a few retail jobs, there are a few different reasons companies end up having employees destroy and toss merchandise. (Yes I agree it sucks). One of the reasons items are destroyed is because people who do take the items out of the trash might then take the merchandise back into the store and get a non-receipted store credit for items they never purchased to begin with and basically the company is then paying someone for “stealing” their merchandise. And a lot of times those people end up selling those store credit gift cards to make money.

Also big companies don’t have the payroll or time to donate from each and every store the amount of things that get toss daily.
Another big thing is they cannot let employees or anyone else just take the items because what ends up happening is unfortunately certain employees will take advantage of that and then all of the sudden there is an increase in purposefully “damaged” items so that people can take them for free even if the item was perfectly fine. So they really have no choice but to say destroy it and throw it away. Not to mention sometimes people will throw things in the trash and have someone else then come pick them up to resell so they try to avoid that as much as possible im sure.

And most of the items that get thrown away are obviously damaged things that they can’t sell at a discount cause no one wants them.. stuff that gets recalled for cancer or safety issues etc. … or returns that can’t be put back on the shelf.

There are other reasons too that’s just some of them.

Anyway hope that kind of helped even though no one will probably see this!

as someone who works for one of those companies that starts with V, we actually don’t do that! all of our damaged product gets recycled, so we ship it out to our damage facility (same place where online returns go) and they get recycled

Hi, I haven’t seen you in awhile… What I would do with some of those books. Take some to the hospital’s emergency room, senior citizen homes, ask some of the schools if they could use some books, shelters, you’d be surprised on what you can do with those books.

I worked at target and we didn’t throw anything away except food and undies. Anything else was sent to a liquidation center for resale.
