Shipping containers as shops and showrooms are the usual story in Europe, but Russia is only starting to flirt with this option for alternative public space.

Meanwhile, Russian street artists are using it to showcase the difference between illegal vandalism and organised public art. Their new Art Block exhibition gives AVENUE-BOX a cool, modern vibe.

So far, there are 12 containers in AVENUE-BOX, where you can get a taste of Asia, Italy and the States, chase it with an artisan coffee and a delish doughnut.

Take it all up to the roof and enjoy the view, or chill next to green space. you can also give your pet a make over, or just relax with them in a funky restaurant. There are also other cool modern art objects dotted around the area.

Each container in Avenue Box cost around €700 per month to rent and gives new opportunities to small businesses and startups. All containers are fully finished, have electricity and water, and are well insulated. That means vendors can continue to trade even in winter!

You know where else uses shipping containers? The largest market in Central Asia is a huge labyrinth of blue shipping container.
