UN Police Clash With Climate Activists From COP25 After Protest

▶️ Some 100 demonstrators staged a protest, Wednesday, December 11, at the United Nations climate talks in Madrid, calling on leaders to take action on climate change and for indigenous voices to be heard.
👉 The protesters, who numbered about 100 and chanted slogans such as "shame" as ministers and delegates met nearby, were met by United Nations police who formed a human chain to push the protesters back.
One U.N. policeman pulled accredidations from around protesters' necks and snatched a protest banner from one of them, television footage showed.
Additionally, the U.S. delegation is maintaining a discreet public presence at the conference.
But another message is sounding in the cavernous conference center, where representatives of nearly 200 countries are feeling the pressure to deepen their emissions-cutting goals amid a slew of dire climate warnings.
Around the corner from the U.S. delegation office, the prominently located pavilion of the U.S. Climate Action Center is embracing the tagline #WEARESTILLIN — a message scrawled on its tents and echoed by U.S. Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi during a visit here last week. (Reuters/VOA)

Both sides are wrong. 2 wrongs dont make a right. No matter what your message, shaming anyone isnt the way to change. Love is. Compassion, peace, understanding, sharing, giving are all ways to make an impact on others. No one will stand and listen to someone who is shaming them. They will listen to someone who has gotten on their level and become a friend. Who shows all of the above mentioned.

On the other side, the police should not have pushed anyone. I can understand them having a barrier to protect a place, person or thing but the pushing was absolutely unneccessary. I hope the shaming and the pushing both stop because both will not be useful.

I was there. It was entirely peaceful and was calling for indigenous voices to be listened to, as they had been largely ignored during the negotiations. It was terrifying, the security guards were out of order. They shoved people, elbowed them, especially the ones wearing black suits. They threatened to take my pass away for filming, which is effectively being kicked out because you can't reenter. They shoved these protestors, peacefully asking for human rights to be respected, outside and then kicked them out the conference. Regardless of your stance on climate policies, this is not how peaceful protestors should be treated.
