Have to say, I'm quickly finding your videos to be my "don't miss" choice. I watch a LOT of permaculture and farm people for my own continuing education and you tend to be the most informative/best refresher based in science.

At 9:14 "cutting this is going to be a little difficult" - helpful tip when you need to take off such a large piece and you don't want to risk damaging the main trunk - Take the branch off in a couple of sections, say first the top third, then the next third. The remaining section should be something you can manage with one hand easily, so you can prevent it from trying to tear away from the main trunk. When you take the whole branch at once, it can easily get away from you and tear the main trunk.

One thing I’ve learned to implement is to have a plan for your biomass/mulch placement, it’s easy to chop and drop your mulch in place but can be better utilized in certain areas. For example I think ahead of what I’m trying to get to produce in the oncoming months, this is important for me since I’m working with a suburban yard.

Hi, again, SGB! This kung fu style 'chop and drop' seems to be the bee's knees to fertilizing. Thanks for sharing it.
Permaculture Q&A: I found out that the Kentucky Coffee Tree is a nitrogen fixer and 12 years ago I took down 7 old trees due to their constant limbs breaking, snapping and littering the property.
I know their roots are everywhere within my soil as they try to grow new trees like weeds.
Would i still need to plant a nitrogen fixer between my apple and plum trees if i am planting them near a KCT root?

Thanks again for all of the knowledge you share.
God bless.

Wu Tang out.

I’d love to know what species yall all use for Chop and drop? I use Tithonia diversifolia, purple Napier grass, and pigeon pea as my primary mulching material, I also use lemon grass heavily.

Great info. Would it behoove me to sow some clover or other ground cover in my established garden this year? 1st year garden from bare ground (covered with cardboard and chicken coop hay with poop for 6 months prior to tilling in late feb)

10:22 na, you feed the microbiology, which will in turn feed the soil that feeds your tree

#PERMACULTUREQ&A:
Hey William. Thanks again for all this great content bro!
We've got a bunch of grass that we planted for some pasture area; Ryegrass and Kentucky 31 Fescue.
Some weeds are coming up, mostly concerned of some areas where the grass isn't really taking off and there's some weeds taking advantage.
Would it be helpful to apply lime and / or minerals - just once, to help the grass get going??

Permaculture Q&A chop and drop. When would I chop & drop in a cool semi-arid desert climate. In total annually 5.14 (in.) rain & 6.5 (in.) snow.
Mid Feb is when we get about 1 inch of rain otherwise scattered showers. Thank you in advance
