I like the way you did your banana beds. And planting the mexican sunflower on the edges makes it easier to manage. Great idea!

I love this system, as it can be adapted to any yard. I like to cut my twigs and branches up into smaller sizes, keeping the leaves on them, then put them as mulch at the base of the plant it came from. That way, it seems that whatever that particular plant needs and had already used, is available to it again. Plants (bushes, trees) become their own mulch machines, as the more I mulch, the better and faster they grow, providing more material. It's hard to keep up sometimes.

About a year or more ago we talked about combining Tithonia and bamboo. I did and it has worked out very well between the young clumps. Both as a temporary screen and mulch generator. I've made two cuts which worked as a self-mulch system for the bamboo on one side. The next cut will be mulched on the other side of the bamboo hedge. Done in very dry weather even the hard stuff didn't root.

We haven't gotten a nice overview of your place in a while to see the progression. I'd also love a vid on the economics if that's not too personal... is your farm generating any income yet? Not specifics, just a rough idea or even future expectations.
Thanks.

When mulching banana plants, is it ok to pile the mulch up on the trunk?

You use lemongrass for mulching? Wow! That stuff is expensive! I make the most amazing tea out of it by the gallons. It has a very calming effect.
