It is a rare specimen which has terrorized an entire population for many years. As Newsweek reports, a six-meter-long, 900-kilogram crocodile, nicknamed Gustave, is believed to have killed more than 300 people living near Lake Tanganyika, in Burundi.

People love to shock other people with stories like this. These animals are just trying to live their lives and not be bothered.

"Where do you want the cage placed ?"
"Just wait, we're trying to find the hardest, most distant terrain possible."

I live in Florida on a river. Our subdivision has around 40 homes. There was an old man alligator living nearby and we used to see it frequently. Some of our snowbirds from Ohio, Michigan or wherever went into pearl clutching mode and called the Wildlife department, who promptly killed the large 'gator and rounded up the small on and relocated them. As mentioned in the article, these animals have inhabited this planet for millions of years. My point is, if you choose to live in Florida accept the animals. Better still stay home in your cool States.

Bravo Gustav and bravo for scientists, a draw is fairestl. Nicely said at the end "nature won again", and it should stay thet way. The film is excellent, hippos amazed me and itwas caught on camera...BRAVO

The only way you'll ever get to catch this croc is to calling in the experts from the Northern Territory of Australia where they capture crocs much bigger than this...these guys know crocs and more importantly how to catch them without killing the croc. An 18 foot croc although big, isn't big by Australian standards where crocs can grow as big as 28 foot.

I wonder if it's just one of those stories people tell about this crocodile killing 300 people. That sounds a little insane

If the crocs have a perfect habitat and lots of people splashing round the shallows - then lots of people are going to get eaten whether the crocs are medium sized, large or superjumbo.
It isnt that hard to build basic structures in the water to keep crocs away from where the kids swim or the people bathe and do their laundry.

How much did this 'documentary' cost to make? They couldve spent that money saving lives and spared us the wild goose chase.
Crocs (large ones especially) are cannibalistic. Apart from massive constrictor snakes the only predator for a non juvenile croc is a bigger croc.
They control the population.

Bad idea and worse execution. They should have watched some Australian croc films about how to track them, bait them and trap them.

Gustave is truly a living nightmare! The fact that a single crocodile has terrorized an entire community for years and is believed to have killed over 300 people is both terrifying and fascinating. 🌊🐊 Nature’s deadliest predator right here. 😱🦖

I was born in Southern Egypt
.on the Nile..
Have lived in the South Sudan ..on a tributary of the Nile. They have big ones.
My mother lived there for 18 years...as a nurse. Often either knowing of people who went to bathe
..and were grabbed and dragged under water..and eaten. Always horrific..some lived to tell about it.

A grown hippo could literally break the croc's spine which is exactly why he doesn't *mess with them.
