Addition for Kids - Use Known Facts - Learn How to Add?

Some kids might know the answer for adding two specific numbers together, they usually know what the outcome will be, but it is still considered important to let the kids know some methods in addition to use when they face any mathematical equation they have never solved before or which they are not yet sure of its answer.

A lot of kids know that 10 plus 10 would give them 20 as an answer, but they should also know how they are supposed to double check through the methods that they learn in school or even at home. The most important thing is to use the already known facts by the kids, use the numbers and the equations they already know in order to teach them how to reach a specific answer in general.

Since a lot of kids know the answer for 10 plus 10, you could teach them to get the answer for 10 plus 11 through it; 10 plus 10 would be 20 and since 11 is just one number bigger than 10, it would be correct to add one to 20 to give the final result which is 21.

Another example is 9 plus 1 which the kids know would end up giving them 10 as an answer, so 10 plus 90 would be easy to teach them because they will add zeros to the numbers they already worked on in the previous equation and get the final answer which is 100.

This is the method of using the already known facts by the kids in teaching them maths, but there are other mental math methods used that make it easy for the kid to find the answer to any mathematical equation that is laid there in front of him/her.

There is the ordinary known addition for kids method that usually parents at home and teachers at school use and which is all about partitioning the numbers into tens and units in order to make it easier for getting the final answer rather than using a calculator or else not being able to get the answer at all.

Math could be taught to the kids through several ways, it could be through the ordinary ways that is all about a white board, a pen and a paper, and it could be about those methods that might add toys and games to the process. The most important thing to consider when you are homeschooling your kid is making the process of learning interesting for them and this will either happen through choosing easy methods which they could depend on, or else use the toys and games which they love to play with in general to attract them to the whole lesson.

Always be part of the game and play with your kids. When you are teaching them addition then try to let them be the ones in charge of asking, teach them how to add and at the same time teach them how to ask addition questions and always make sure to trick them with the answers to know if they really know them or will not pay attention to the error you have made.
