Help your child to understand the concept of basic addition, focus on using mathematical vocabulary and language. The video will show you maths resources that can be easily found around the house or classroom.

Develop the idea of addition; what addition actually means - demonstrating the concept visually and practically so your child can fully understand, clearly see the concept in action and allow them to explore and investigate the concept independently.

Play simple math games to help your children move from the practical application to a more formal representation - using mathematical symbols, visual representations and physical objects to build a really strong understanding

At some point, parents will need some kind of support when it comes to homeschooling their children and such educational videos will bring the ideas which they could follow and teach their kids without worrying about delivering the piece of information in a difficult manner.

The initial steps taken in math are always related to counting the numbers, adding, subtracting and so forth, and then comes the other processes which are considered a bit harder, such as subtracting and doing some multiplication. In this video, Aaron was being taught to count and add using some of his toys and through depending on the mathematical vocabulary that is found in the world of math.

Building blocks is a good and successful way to let the kids count numbers and know how to add to it and bring out the answer. Michelle asked Aaron to count the building block towers that she prepared and then asked him to add a specific number and tell her the outcome at the end. One of the important things to pay attention to while playing such games with the kids is to encourage the idea of double checking; let them double check the answers they give at the end to make sure that it was a right one.

There are lots of different games that could be played in an attempt to teach the kids something related to math. With using those building blocks, Michelle actually tested Aaron's skills in counting through other different ways, she showed him a specific number in her hand and then said that she would add another specific number and asked about the answer. So these tools could be used in their ordinary ways, like building the blocks, or they could be used just to refer to numbers.

You could help your child to understand addition through these playing games and you could also depend on your fingers, on a piece of paper, etc. It is important to make the kids use the mathematical vocabulary while they are solving the mathematical problems they have; for example, using equal when they bring the answer, using bigger or smaller than when they refer to the bigger number, saying adding this number to that number, etc.

Focusing on the math vocabulary is important to let the kids understand what they are doing and which words they should be using because this will give them the chance to understand the mathematical questions in the future and know what they are supposed to do or which answer they are supposed to give.

Always be part of the lesson you are giving or the game you are playing and let the kids ask you some questions to answer and solve like the way you do with them, don't always be the one in charge of asking.

Perfect for EYFS, KS1, Preschool and Kindergarten, this video will support parents in talking through, explaining and helping support the understanding of addition and KS1 Maths.
