New Triple Crown Trains That Replaced Abandoned Road Railer Trains, 2 Trains Passing At Abandoned Railroad Crossing With The Gates Still Working, Grain Train Working Grain Elevator & Canadian National Train At 3 Track Crossing. Norfolk Southern Trains Are The Main Feature.
I went to Illinois to film the Union Pacific Big Boy steam locomotive. On my way home I stopped at Homer, Illinois to film a Norfolk Southern Triple Crown train. The NS Triple Crown Road Railer trains that I filmed a couple weeks ago were abandoned by NS. Triple Crown replaced the Road Railers with the intermodal containers and spine cars that you see in this video. This is my first one to film. This train is running from Kansas City to Detroit. After I filmed that we see a locomotive that is working a grain elevator in town. As the covered hopper cars are being loaded with grain the locomotive will pull the train a short distance for further loading.
After that I went to a couple of railroad crossings near Homer and filmed some more trains. We see a Canadian National grain train that is on tracks that cross the NS tracks at grade. I also got a fast train with a special NS locomotive. I used a special setting on my camera to film that one. It is the El Mess Up setting. I have no idea why that is even there. This is my first time to catch that NS locomotive which was pretty lucky but the camera setting was not preferred.
Then I stopped at an abandoned railroad crossing between Homer and Danville, Illinois on my way home. This is the same NS line that all these NS trains are on. The road is permanently closed because a bridge is out. I got two trains passing in opposite directions here and verified that the crossing gates, lights and bell still works.
On the way home I got stuck in traffic near Indianapolis. There were two separate vehicle accidents. I actually see this a lot. Anyway, what do you think of the new Triple Crown service and which train was your favourite? I will be posting two Big Boy steam train videos soon.

Don't miss the Live Action Pets and the slide show that comes from the video.

Filmed Tuesday, September 10, 2024 in 1080p with 30fps. Thanks for watching!

Will forever miss the roadrailers. Best train ever. But was always a fan of piggybacks, so if they keep that up and not just containers I guess I'll be happy, great catches son.. appreciate the coverage

Wonderful catch of the new Norfolk Southern Triple Crown train in Homer, Illinois, Jaw Tooth! Those are new green containers that they are using along with the old Triple Crown silver trailer. If you look at the spine cars you can see that there are green 53-foot containers on those cars. The container that appears at 3:28 is attached to a container chassis. That grain elevator in Homer, Illinois must ship out a lot of loaded covered grain hopper cars that it needs to have its own GP engine to move the cars for loading. I looked at Google Maps. It looks like the grain elevator complex has two tracks that extend east for at least a half mile parallel to the Norfolk Southern tracks. You must have caught that Canadian National grain train before you arrived in Homer, Illinois since the Canadian National mainline is west of Homer, Illinois. That abandoned road railroad crossing south of Danville, Illinois gave us a surprise train meet. That train meet was a wonderful catch. Thank you, Jaw Tooth, for stopping in Homer, Illinois to catch the new Triple Crown service on Norfolk Southern and for the other two locations where you were able to catch trains. The blue Bunge locomotive #103 is a GP16, which was a rebuild from GP7's and GP9's, done about 1979 by Seaboard Coast Line in the Uceta shops in Tampa, Florida. They were updated in several respects and were/are great locomotives to this day. They were conservatively rated at 1600hp; were possibly more like 1800hp. Intermountain Railways has recently come out with HO scale GP16's, although not in the Bunge paint scheme that I recall. Thanks for another great video, Brian.

Great to see the TC at least is still around.
The Roadrailer will be something I'll be thankful to have in my memory!

You make creating such great videos look so easy and relaxing that most people would never consider how much you go through to produce them.
I for one, am truly thankful you do it.

Good made video, mr JT.
Hè, that is nice to see my colleagues of Bunge in Homer Illinois. The company Bunge is established in 1818 in Amsterdam. The headquarter is now in St. Louisville Missouri. Greet from Zandvoort the Netherlands.

Thank you for the fabulous video, JT! We had lots of grain train action, which isn't surprising, given the are you chose to film today. Then we had the classic tug of war between Chessie and Loki, and a shot of someone who had a bad day on the highway. Very interesting, and I always love seeing your pets! Thanks again. 😃😃😃😃😃❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️👍👍

That crossing where there are three tracks and the empty grain train passed by is Tuscola, IL. Tuscola has three different railroads that come through there with CN and Union Pacific and a short regional line that runs on an old B&O line that CSX sold off a few years ago.

Cool video JT. Like the green grain hoppers. Lots of grain moving around these days. I like the Triple Crown cars in green too. Take care and stay safe. Thank you. ❤

Nice video JT! That CN crossing has the bells out of sequence…should be sounding bells when gates are about to be or already in motion..not. While the gates are down…still a good catch! If Tommy gets a dinner invite to Springfield, OH don’t let him go!!
