Nearing 4 months after losing my job. My update. 54 years old

I was offered a seasonal job at Khols! Im gonna GO FOR IT.

YOU HAVE KNOW SOMEBODY THESE DAYS IN ORDER TO GET YOU IN! I'm 54 years old. I felt confident in the last couple months. But i can feel that agesim (age) can be a factor for whats making it hard for me to get a job. At this point I feel like I'm going to give up on the hospital or school type jobs. Although, i still would love to work at a hospital job. I just do. But i decided I'm just going to go back the distribution center jobs for the time being, Go with an agency

You gotta do what's right for you, good luck. One problem with distribution center job is eventually it'll wear you down physically. Maybe not yet in your early 50s but within a few years. Obviously everyone is different and there are exceptions, there are top performers who are older I'm sure.

I don't understand, you really want a school or hospital job but what experience do you have that translates? What school is looking for someone who drove forklifts?

Gil, I was worried about you when you first got laid off, because you talked about waiting to start applying and looking for jobs. I saw this coming a mile away. I wish you the best but you need a little more urgency. Attending a job fair every few weeks aint gonna cut it. Step up and do whatever it takes to help your wife. I mean that respectfully. Heck, uber, doordash, whatever it is, just do it. Enough of the “im not interested” talk. You don’t have that luxury right now. And you keep saying “you gotta know someone” but stop that, even if its true its giving you a victim mentality and thats not going to help you one bit.

Have you tried working in parks and rec or public works? I was a recreation leader and we did a lot of cleaning up parks

They're similar to custodian jobs and you can get some experience and apply to schools/hospital after a while

Seasonal jobs chew people up and spits em out, no benefits and usually not even a good reference for future jobs. Just placeholder jobs but when you get to certain ages it has to be excruciating to just job hop constantly, your body and mind want something stable (and healthcare)

you shoulda started doing both uber eats and doordash or instacart back when I told you. you could be making $2K a month easy working as your own boss and schedule whenever you want to.
