Just some casual observations from an American citizen living in Germany. Yield signs vs stop signs, merging in traffic, etc. The quest for order & efficiency seems to be a very important part of German culture.

Vorfahrtsstraße sign means: you're on the big street (thick arrow=rocket up) instead of small street crossing (you called it wings 🙂)
As well for driving license and training for it we're taught deference for all other ones on the street even if they make a mistake.
Another point might be the smoothly coexistence even with bicylces and especially pedestrians how often are treated very very respectfully. And yes, we also have some (few) idiots on the streets.
Zig-zag is ruled by law ..one left, one right... but I guess you saw that we do it smoothly as well 🙂
Right before left is easier to handle than First stop first drive - but therefore you need the special switch in your head for turn on/off

Native older German here. Right before left is the general rule, if it is not indicated other wise you are requierd to follow the right before left rule. And that is the basic thing to know and for sure " no turn right on a red light".
