When i visited California last year, i saw them. PIctures hardly do them justice! They are so massive and beautiful. Almost unreal! They make you feel like your in some fantasy story.

Incredible. Makes me sad that any have been cut down. I realize we need wood, but to cut down something so incredible that has been around over a thousand years seems like a sin.

Wow what an honor it would be to climb a giant like that

If you look at the design of the tree, its trunk occupy a small space on earth, its branches and leaves stick out on top as the surface area is larger when it is futher away from the earth.

The trees... I love them... If these old trees could talk, or rather: if humans would listen to the trees, they probbably got many stories and lots of original wisdoms to tell. So let's listen and really listen!

You had to climb this tree to get this photo. I hope that you have some recognition of how it is contributing to inconsiderate treatment of these magnificent trees. Do we have NO imagination that we can't recognize that other "beings" on this planet are just as valid as we ourselves? All those climbing these ancient trees are contributing to their demise. One or two scientists help us to understand what is taking place up there in the canopy. However - do you remember a teacher pointing out to you as a young student - if one person picks a flower, ok, but if everybody picks a flower, they will all be gone! And your teacher was right. If you truly revere these trees, admire them with your mind, and let them be here for your great, great grandchildren!

I usually don't respond to stupid and ill informed comments, however I'd like to set you straight. I've seen these trees in person, and know the gigantic size they are. Take into account the simple rules of perspective and you then realize how complex of a task this was. Now as for the importance of it; to call this ancient tree stupid is just plain ignorant. The fact that it did survive man's ignorance in the past is amazing in itself.

Great job NatGeo!!
