Reinforcing Snap Fasteners in Thin Materials

A snap or fastener should be reinforced for proper use and long life. If a snap is installed in a light fabric with little or no reinforcement it may rip though the fabric after only a few uses. Typically fasteners, like snaps, are installed in no less than three layers of fabric, usually in a double hem. But in situations where a thin fabric is used with a single hem that fabric should be reinforced. This tutorial video will show how to quickly reinforce a snap or fastener installation to help prevent the fastener from being ripped out of the thin fabric assembly.

My experience has the thin fabric pulling away from the dome cap snap part, such as a wind storm pushing the fabric out. Or a gorilla (ignorant boat owner) pulling the fabric cover off the boat too forcefully or at the wrong angle, or after poor maintenance gets the snap all crusty. I put a circle cut reinforcement on the outside fabric side if customer agrees to my recommendation. Not as nice looking, but very secure!
