Before President Biden's first State of the Union address, we asked some Americans in Philadelphia how they feel about the US response to the war in Ukraine.

The US and its North Atlantic Treaty Organization (Nato) allies have been sending weapons to Ukraine to help it fight against Russia.

Mr Biden has said that the US will not send troops to fight in Ukraine.

Western nations have also imposed economic sanctions designed to punish Russia for invading.

The BBC must be truly desperate if they're asking the opinion of a drunk girl sitting on a cold bench in Philadelphia.

No offence to Americans but that seems like a very typical response from the American public.
Is the president doing enough? No he’s not he needs to do more
What more should he do? No idea

It’s hard to watch and my thoughts and prayers are with everyone in Ukraine but if any one assists the Ukraine, be it the US or the UK for example, then that could trigger more serious consequences like a nuclear war. Basically we’re between a rock and a hard place.

Most of these people probably don't even know what NATO stands for.

People are simpletons that want magic solutions; they don't care about the actual logistics that go into solving a problem, they think getting Putin to stand down without risking open war or raising oil prices is just something that should call in their lap.

Interesting how they all said U.S. looked weak, but backed ff when asked if U.S. troops should be sent.

So much Americans really have gotten so used to the decades of muscle flexing of their government that they don't think about possible escalation anymore.

“Putins asserting his dominance why don’t we assert ours?”
There you have it, the words that ended humanity

Speaking as an American, we’re overall dumb as hell when it comes to politics, compared to our European and Asian brethren. That’s not an unfair stereotype.

There’s a lot of warmongers in America. They are tough as long as it’s someone else’s kid that goes. The same people who say he’s not being tough enough, have no proposals as to what else he’s supposed to do.

to people who say usa has weak reation and should do something more, you should do it yourself by volunteer joining with ukr army. they already had a foreign unit right now.

These people are so concerned about America looking CONCERNED ABOUT CIVILIANS DYING. I feel like BBCs questions should have been listed, cause clearly they inserted "weak" in there.

I completely get all the people asking other countries to send in their military forces and fight alongside Ukraine, but it's really not that simple. It's not like playing a game of Risk lol, shit like that could escalate into a much larger conflict i.e. WWIII? Of course I want nothing more but for Ukraine to win, and it's great countries are providing humanitarian aid and money and weapons even, but it's another thing for them to engage in combat with Russia. No one wants a world war. Boris Johnson spoke very honestly, I thought, earlier today (and I don't usually like the man but his response has been pretty good so far imo). He said that while he understands the demand for UK forces to move in, it's just not the most favourable option rn.
Not sure what the US' response has been, but sending in supplies and weapons is already pretty good.

It’s best to wait and strategize. I don’t think people realize that taking immediate action in this situation can can very much escalate it to a world war. A lot of casualties in history could’ve been avoided if a country’s people would lessen the pressure they put on their government to act, especially in a violent way. The best thing to do right not is strengthen sanctions and provide support to Ukraine in way of weaponry, food, and the basic resources. Russia is currently losing this war, and choosing to strike first would give them reason to employ their full artillery against Ukraine, which is definitely not the optimal choice
