I have been working for Volvo for over 13 years and can tell you the Volvo is the safest car made. The reason the Volvo keeps moving after the crash is cause the wheel is designed to break free from the car causing less damage to the cab. And in returns causing less damage to the people in the car.

The Volvo was like "Crash test? What crash test?" and kept going.

that off-set crash test changed the game. that type of crash is more common than a full on frontal collision.

The volvo "slides" through the obstacle and avoid as much "changing energi" as possible for the "passengers" all thanks to its crash cage and the material in the crash cage 👍

Everyone in the Volvo: “Damn that was close. Good thing we didn’t hit anything”

Volvo passenger, "Was that a speed bump?"

You can see how the Volvo directs the force of the impact away from the car and keeps going while the passenger compartment of the Hyundai has to take the full hit.

I'm not really a Volvo fan but I like the way it deflected rather than getting hooked on the edge.. slower deceleration=less trauma

These 2 cars did great, and I'll tell you why both of them got good ratings. The volvo didn't take as much damage due to the fact that it's designed to slip off in case of a small overlap. In the genesis, the wheel did not stay on, which caused low intrusion to the footwell. And airbags were barley needed for the car too.

I'm noticing that whenever they crash a Volvo, it always slides past the barrier

To all of you idiots who do not understand Genesis did not take a harder blow, Volvo is designed to slip away (check out the crash test Volvo XC90 vs Audi Q7) and you will see the same thing. What do you think causes the most damage to the body, a grinding halt or evasive? Volvo is the safest car on the market.

I am really, really inclining on buying a Volvo as my next car. Nothing is more important than keeping your occupants and yourself safe, for obvious reasons... In 2013 when IIHS started conducing the small overlap test, cars of all categories were failing miserably, while the 2008 XC60 (yes, that car has been designed 5+ years earlier) passes the test with flying colours, better than all new cars actually, except for the newest Volvos... This is what a 500mil EUR private test facility gets you.

When the IIHS first introduced the small overlap front crash test, many luxury cars including Audi didn't do good. But then, over-10-year-old Volvo had good ratings no problem.

Would a certified crash test expert please stand up? And give us an explanation on which car is the safer one here. Tired of the little teenagers posting their know-it-all comments here, welcome to Youtube.

For those wondering the behavior demonstrated by the Volvo is generally safer, not only does the deflection reduce the G loading on the occupants, but it significantly reduces the probability of a secondary accident from vehicles behind or from spinning into the oncoming lane, it also keeps the more effective front and rear crumple zones oriented parallel to the flow of traffic so that if there is a secondary accident it is safer for all parties involved. Yes there is a risk of it rolling straight on into pedestrians, but if it does then you were going to hit them anyways since you were already traveling towards them at speed and that scenario is far more uncommon that the secondary accident alluded to above anyways.

typical volvo. Wouldn't even wake up your sleeping kid in the back. You'd think you just skimmed across the wall, then you'd get out and wonder where half your car went
