This is the reason there on top. I’m for one glad to be part of the Bmw family.

Adding another 50ccs to the engine is phenomenal when it comes to power! 4 valves per cylinder is a huge improvement too! This Bike is going to take you places! The trick is to learn how to make the engine do its best without delivering too much power for the need that's presented. Great job R&D department! It is liquid cooled too I hope! This is a real improvement!

Damn those BMW engineers are good. I love the fact that BMW is explaining clearly how something that technical works. Thanks guys.

Just another flavour of vtec. Honestly pretty much every carmaker has this kind of valve timing system with different names

Checking the valve lash will be interesting

Wow ! Implementing VVT system (Double VANOS ^^) in a motorbike engine ! Well done ! This engine will have a real double personnality ! Can't wait to test that !

What Bmw didn’t mention is that the cam gears will wear out prematurely and, for most of us, just out of warranty. When my 1250gsa was in for 20000 km service I was told that the cam gears were worn out - a very expensive repair. The service workshop suggested to Bmw that, given the low mileage of the bike and given that it had been fully serviced at Bmw workshops, they ought to bear the cost for this repair, especially since this isn’t something that should break down at all. Bmw Motorrad replied that they would take 0% of the cost. It was the same thing two years earlier, when the throttle handle and the engine harness broke a month out of warranty. No good will at all from Bmw despite a faulty construction being obvious.
In the end the service workshop settled to change the cam tensioner on the left side, but most likely the problem will come back in a year or two. The service shop said that most 1250:s with shiftcam has cam rattle. Bmw denies it. I checked some Bmw forums and quite soon realised that the workshop statement was correct - a lot of 1250 owners have experienced the problem. Apparently also a few 1300 owners. I traded the bike for another brand but I will never again buy a Bmw. You pay premium for a Bmw and should be able to expect a qulity on par with the price. But insted you get poor quality wih no responsibility taken by Bmw. Similar story on the car side of things. Bmw make bold claims that cam timing chains are so much better than belts, but a fact is that the chain fails way more often than the belts used by other manufacturers.

So it's basically V-Tech for BMW motorcycles? Love the concept, and it's super cool. Just wondering if it's in the same ballpark?

Beautifully simplistic. Like most of my marriages.

The differential intake timing on the partial load setting is interesting. Would love to know more about the engineering/physics thought behind it.

there are many 1250 with camshaft problems

Good evolution. Now TFT screens for your K bikes please. These models are behind.

Is there any automatic decompressor device in this engine? There are a number of R1250GS owners complaining about starting problems, so wondering if there is any device relieving the electrical system during the start.

WTF is 'Sovereign Acceleration'? 😆 I need some of that in my life

Please BMW, tell me the news?
Honda launched Vtech in 1983!
Simpler system doing exactly the same...

What makes each of the two pins raise and lower to shift the cam across? When it comes to reliability I guess the cam shaft is good for many hundreds of thousands of miles, and whatever the shift device is is just under the cam cover to easily accessed if it becomes faulty?

Yes, but when are you going to MotoGP?
