How to create a routine for your amazon smart plug
Steps:
To do this open amazon alexa app.
Tap on the menu icon on the top left side of the screen and choose "Routines"
Now tap on the plus icon
Next to "When this happens" tap on the plus icon.
Then tap on Schedule
Tap on "At Time".
Then tap on "select" next to "At time"
Choose the time for this schedule let's say midnight.
Now tap on "select" next to repeat to choose how often you want to repeat the schedule for example "every day"
then tap "done"
Now tap on "next"
then tap on the plus icon next to "Add action"
From the list choose "Smart home"
Now choose your plug
Choose an action for your plug, let'say power it off.
Now tap on next then save.
Now your amazon plug will power off everyday at midnight.
You can now use the same steps to create a schedule to power it back on in the morning.

That is the most convoluted way to do a simple job. It should be intuitive and no instructions needed. Barff !!!

Yours was the fifth You Tube video I watched to set up a routine on my Tapo smart Plug. AND, the first one that had the same screens as on my phone - so it worked. Great stuff, so I've subscribed. Many thanks from a Lancastrian.

This helped me to setup a "smart plug" light schedule to turn on at sunset and off at midnight. Thank you. One thing that confused me is during Add Action. It seems to want to specify a group first and individual devices second (on iOS Alexa app). A way around that is to choose "all devices" and your individual device to control will be listed there to select. At first I thought I could ONLY select a group. :( The GUI could be better if if asked "Do you want to schedule an individual device" "or group". Menu design needs improvement.

Thank you. This is not as simple as some of the third party plugs that I’ve tried.

Same here. Couldn't figure out how to set time. This was the only video that worked.

do you have to have an alexa for this or can I just download the app and have the smart plug?

Amazon really should look into this we shouldn't have to go on to YouTube to learn how to carry out one of the most basic functions of a smartplug!

This demo is for fixed time for start stop. How to command Alexa to start now and switch off automatically after 5 mins randomly at any time during the day ? Pls respond
This is needed if I use the plug to turn on geyser which needs to shut down automatically after a specified time if I forget. People don't have fixed time to take shower. Then what ?

My version on iPhone does not have the menu in the upper left hand corner, it has something that looks like a keyboard and when I tap it I get a text looking message letting me know Alexa now knows how to type. I still cannot figure out how to schedule a plug using the app. Disappointing.
