In this special edition of the Sermon Notes podcast, host Jay Strother is joined by guest Brian Ball to explore the intricate relationship between biblical teachings and political engagement, especially as the 2024 election approaches. The discussion emphasizes viewing politics through a biblical lens, maintaining that Jesus’ kingship should influence every area of life, including voting. Together, Jay and Brian outline four guiding principles:
God is on the Throne, and Jesus is King. No matter the election outcome, Jesus remains sovereign. This perspective helps believers navigate political uncertainties with peace and trust in God’s ultimate authority.
God is Sovereign Over All Nations and People. God’s sovereignty means He is not surprised by election outcomes. Political events unfold under His authority, which provides assurance that He oversees even what we might not understand.
No Candidate, Party, or Platform Can Fully Provide, Protect, or Satisfy. While engagement in politics is important, ultimate trust and hope should be placed in God, not in human leaders or political systems, as only God can truly fulfill and guide believers.
Christians Are Citizens of Two Kingdom. Believers balance their citizenship in their nation with their ultimate allegiance to the Kingdom of God. They aim to align their actions with God’s will, participating thoughtfully in civic duties like voting while prioritizing their commitment to God’s kingdom above all else.

With practical steps for faithful engagement, this episode encourages listeners to steward their votes responsibly, prioritize love and peace, and trust fully in God’s sovereign hand.
