Chinese tech giant Tencent Holdings, which runs the world’s largest video gaming business by revenue, has significantly cut down playing time for minors on its flagship game Honour of Kings. The measures were taken in apparent response to claims that video gaming is harming teenagers in China. A report published by a newspaper affiliated with China’s official news agency Xinhua on August 3, 20201, called online gaming “spiritual opium”, singling out Tencent as a source of the problem.

the problem is never on the game, but on how to educated the kids..

I've seen kids putting a fake adult ID just to play for longer. Restricting them won't stop them, they'll just find another way around the system.

I play games but I balance it with my studies because I hate hearing my parents complain every time about my gaming so I have to make sure I get high grades.

No big loss, Tencent makes EA Games and Activision look like Saints with how cash grabby and P2W their games are. There are far better Chinese game companies out there like Mihoyo and Yostar.

The cause of addiction is never the substance but the mind. Game addiction is not caused by the game itself but rather the escape from a meaningless life the game offers. Take the game away and these people will just find another substitute.

I think it's too harsh. Aren't a lot of Multiplayer games like MOBAs and PUBGs, like, 30-40 minutes long? You can squeeze in a game and if you're lucky, maybe in a bit of of a second game if it's short enough.

I think if we're gonna have to have a strict maximum, why not two hours on weekdays, 3 on Weekends? Because if you lose the first game on weekdays, now you can't try again to win.

This is a bad move, especially the current esport industry is booming right now. This will definitely affect the chinese eSports scene. Wait till they limit other games playtime

So you can watch a single movie that runs for two hours, but you can only play a video game for an hour? Doesn't sound balanced.

Mainland Chinese gamers are unable to enjoy video games after long hours of school work. Big pain for them. o7

Giving gamers shorter play time just make it more addicted since they will get excited to play it more and more and cant wait for it. Technically it does nothing, completely nothing, utterly useless
