NHØP - Solo Bass Concert( Live in Hamburg in 1993)

Here's a phenomenal solo bass concert recording with the late Danish virtuoso Niels Henning Ørsted Pedersen or simply NHØP, the abbrevation that was/is widely used. In addition to being one of the finest recorded performances of his career in my opinion, it also has sublime sound quality. Known outside Scandinavia primarily for his collaborations with pianist Oscar Peterson, NHØP was as musically versatile as they come. He excelled at everything from playing the most tender and lyrical ballads to bebop tunes at blistering tempos. All facets of his extraordinary musicianship are covered in this stellar concert. You also get a glimpse of his dry humor and warm personality as he talks to the audience inbetween tunes. On some of the tracks he plays along to pre recorded bass parts. The concert took place at the Rolf-Liebermann studio in Hamburg, Germany in 1993, recorded and broadcasted by German radio. I don't have the exact date unfortunately. I hope you'll enjoy this piece of jazz history :)

Thanks for the upload :) I guess the concert took place around the year 1992 (that's when the record Uncharted Land came out)

This guy is like the Victor Wooten of the acoustic bass. Love his work with Oscar Peterson. Simply a virtuoso.

On the topic of Niels being inspired by Jaco, there’s a out of this world NHOP live rendition of Autumn Leaves on YouTube as a duet with a pianist and before the performance Niels mentioned that the previous piece (not on the video) was inspired by Jaco. ❤️🎶

How did he get such a clear, distinct tone, especially in the upper register of the bass? Did he use roundwound strings? A good pickup? No one else has come close to getting such a tone.
