Black Sabbath - Am I Going Insane [Radio] (HQ)

Am I Going Insane (Radio) is a single by the band Black Sabbath on the 1975 album "Sabotage". Although common conception is that the suffix "Radio" was said to be added to the title because it was made for the purpose of being played on the radio, drummer Bill Ward said that it was Cockney rhyming slang for "mental"; radio-rental. Critics also have said it was ironic that all the members of Black Sabbath except for Tony Iommi later suffered from clinical depression.

I won a radio show contest once with this song. The contest was called back rockwards and they would play a rock song backwards to see who could guess the song and I nailed this song. I won tickets to a tractor pull!

Back in the mid 70s when I was about 4 years old my Dad used to play all of the Sabbath records released to that point and this was my favorite song.

Always loved the Middle Eastern modal sound of the first part of the solo.  Very trippy and "insane"!  Ward's drumming adds such essential energy to this tune.

Little story of how this became my favorite song. I was stationed in germany with the National Guard. I just bought this CD because I heard Black Sabbath songs usually being played at home town BBQ's. I wanted to check out at least one of their albums. Sabbotage was that album because of the cool photo of Ozzy and the band. During stay in Germany, on the weekend I went to Amsterdam to check out the sites. Amsterdam was amazing! I got to see Amsterdam when the sun went down, and it started to rain. The detail of amsterdam architecture was so cool!

On my way back to the base, I jammed this CD on the bus . What woke me up was this song "Am I going Insane". The song reminded me of Amsterdam . Reminded me of the European life. Great Track!
