Understanding long Covid: why researchers are turning to gut bacteria for answers

Researchers at the Chinese University of Hong Kong have identified gut bacteria patterns that may be used to predict, diagnose and help treat long Covid. Professor Siew Chien Ng, associate director of the university’s Centre for Gut Microbiota Research, says a simple stool test can tell recovered Covid-19 patients their risks of suffering the effects of long Covid with 90 per cent accuracy. The initial study involved stool samples from more than 100 patients, with researchers set to increase the sample size to between 3,000-5,000 to improve the accuracy of results, Professor Ng tells the Post’s Alkira Reinfrank. The team is also set to conduct a clinical trial of a “microbiome immunity formula” to reduce the risk of Covid patients developing long Covid in the future.

I had ibs and Gerd prior to covid so I can agree the gut initially plays a role. But the blurred vision and burning feet post covid is hard to relate to the gut. I think it's a damage, blood, nerve or autoimmune component.

I think "Defective Stools" are in Parliament in Australia . That is the cause of Long COVID symptoms like poverty, anxiety, inability to think straight, inability to pay rent, buy smokes, food, fuel etc ..

Sauerkraut or 'sour cabbage' is essentially fermented cabbage.
Kimchi, Kambucha, Kefir, etc. Eat these regulary. might help to keep gut healthy.
AVOID SUGAR: sodas, junk foods.

Well done China, hopefully with the technologically and research capabilities of such a big player as China getting involved in solving the long covid mystery we might just find a cure or some treatments for this horrific disease. Unfortunately some are still in denial but they won't be when it happens to them or someone close to them. This is the largest disabling event in human history and has absolutely dwarfed the wave of disability brought on by Polio which was seen as one of humanity's greatest challenges until we beat it. Hopefully we can do the same with covid one day

May be some anty viral antybody cross react with some cells membrane receptors?That can explain induction of apparently tendency of erytrocyte aggregation like coin rolls at low blood temperature.
At perifereal circulation where blood temperature are low, that can increase blood viscousity.
