Long COVID has emerged as a devastating outcome of the pandemic and scientific knowledge of this new condition remains limited. While more research is needed to understand the prolonged impact the disease has on the human body, early studies have shown that activity management can be an effective method of managing and treating symptoms. Julia Moore Vogel, PhD, a clinical trial expert at the Scripps Research Translational Institute and COVID long hauler, is applying her knowledge of digital health technologies to shed light on this poorly understood condition. Wearable devices have been shown to be helpful tools for monitoring physiological changes, such as heart rate and heart rate variability, as well as providing metrics on stress, activity and sleep levels. The Long COVID Wearables Study, led by Moore Vogel, will gather and analyze data from activity trackers worn by participants with long COVID in a bid to improve symptom management, inform treatment and empower study participants to manage their health.

I dealt with long haul for a year after alpha 2020 infection, no fun at all, but was finally able to climb out of the hole with the help of a magnificent md/rheumatologist who specializes in functional medicine, and was herself a long hauler. this approach made a huge difference. and again when I got omicron Dec '21, after 3 vaccines and antibodies from the alpha. I would encourage all affected to seek a more holistic approach while the research community searches for more answers.

Pacing isn’t a treatment though. Sun exposure/Vit D supplementation appears to help some individuals with long covid.

This is literally what it feels like to have an autoimmune. You mourn the life that was once yours, you are never the same, but it’s rarely talked about. Long COvid sounds like an autoimmune reaction to me. This is very worrisome, what is this world gonna look like in a couple years with all these cases and the rates of autoimmune increasing. Scary times.

Hi there. I’m 11 months in and using the same method with my Garmin.
I have a very small Facebook group doing the same led by a doctor who’s on sabbatical while long hauling.

Julia, thank you very much for sharing your journey and your research. I wonder if there is an update to your research to help people recover from long covid. Thank you very much.

You should try to use an additional control group of myalgic encephalomyelitis patients since many of the symptoms of long covid: intolerance after exertion, loss of cognition + mental fatigue, delayed post-exertional crash, shortness of breath, muscle and body aches, are very similar to long covid. Many of doctors who have treated it for a long time are already referring to it as the original long covid.

WHY would a company request blood samples from Fibromyalgia patients to check for Covid antibodies? Happened to me earlier in pandemic! See a Rheumatologist is my suggestion
