I even asked as a child, "If knowledge was forbidden, why was it put in the garden in the first place?" Curiosity is a basic human instinct. In retrospect, it was meant to happen. The Almighty God doesn't instill fear in His creatures, but He seeks an everlasting relationship with them especially mankind. He is merciful, loving, and just.
Remember that this Immutable, ununderstandable God whose wisdom, knowledge and power is just beyond mankind.
His just nature makes Him to judge mankind but that's not through fear. Seek the Lord and be saved. The fallen, gullible, helpless man wants to understand the entirety of the Almighty Creator and when he realised that's not possible, probably backed by demonic teachings, turned to Satan and his tricks which are deceptive; for they are calming to our ears but poisonous to our soul.
