ASUS Zenbook 14 OLED with Intel Core Ultra 7: What worked (and what didn't)

When I first got the ASUS Zenbook 14 OLED, I thought I was working with a good laptop with a great OLED screen. What I discovered instead was something that feels like a paradigm shift in laptops, thanks to the new Intel 14th Gen Meteor Lake chips! Thanks to the Intel Core Ultra 7 in this ASUS Zenbook 14 OLED, I feel like we're at the beginnings of an exciting new era in notebooks.

5:48 Calling "3-4 hours and close to 5-6 hours" battery life in low power mode "impressive" is somehow ... sad 😕

I just got the 14x model over the 14 for Christmas! I wish you covered the 14x but I'm happy you covered this lineup regardless!

Josh, man I started watching to learn something about what you're covering, and then noticed halfway through after the initial stuff is covered, that I'm sitting back sipping my Coffee and enjoying this like I'm watching a movie... Your Zen tea/coffee break vibe has absolutely permeated into these new videos. After watching tech videos you sometimes feel a bit tired from all the pros/cons and millions of graphs, but not even close here. Can't wait to tune into the next one! Hope you and everyone in the comments had a great Christmas 🙂

Did he just say 3 to 5 hours on low settings? I’ve exited the video at that point.

Is this review before or after the BIOS update that came out a couple days ago? That apparently addressed some voltage/heat/performance issues.

Edit: just to add another oddball thing, retail reviews don't have the numpad on the trackpads, and I can confirm mine didn't as well. There was additionally a screen door effect on whites, probably due to the digitizer.

I bought one of these and it was absolutely beautiful but died the same day I got it. Blue screened every 20 minutes then that time slowly went down till it blue screened every 60 seconds after turning on. I agree the keyboard is really good.

The retail version also comes with a pen which I think is interesting as I didn't see reviewers mention it when I watched a few before hand.

I'm hoping it was a fluke since these chips are so new, I just returned it and am contemplating re-buying it. I think either way I'll wait to see the silver available, my blue was covered in fingerprints just after a day. Wonderful device but I think I lost the hardware lottery.

I'm slightly confused by the Zenbook 14 variants. There are OLED vs non OLED. Then there is the Q425 Jasper Grey vs UX3405 Ponder blue. It seems like there is a UX3402 but without the Core Ultra 7 CPU and Intel ARC with the older 11th gen i7 with Iris. So I take that you have the UX3405 which has the top of the line with windows 11 pro, stylus, sleeve, USB adaptor, where as the Q425MA-U71TB does not have the fancy external line designs, no fancy touchpad with the keypad, window 11 home, 16GB ram but with the powerhouse of the Core Ultra 7, Intel Arc. and that's it. It's confusing to say the least, where there is a UX3402 non-ultra 7 out there at best buy right now. Anyways, great review here.

This Notebook has one very serious down side??? I'm running Windows 11 pro on it and I'm finding that I'm doing most of my work in bed. Wake up...coffee so that I don't have to kill anyone and my beautiful desktop pc only gets Windows updates and security updates and then shut down. Yes I use it for other functions where a desktops power is needed but as I type this, I'm lying in bed while my husband....not a typo has to get up and go to work. The OLED display is beautiful. Watching YouTube videos is relaxing. 10 outa 10.

3-6 hours for light browsing ? All of the reviews and tests says at least 11 hours while Asus claims 18 hours. Are you sure your unit wasn't a dud?

I bought model UX3405MA-BS71T-CB a month ago, and I hate it. I use it for basic office work and it freezes so many times, I still have three days to return it but I don't know what to buy instead, I don't even know if the problem is in the laptop or the network, knowing that I used the zenbook 7i before this and did not face such issues. I can not believe how many times I need to wait to web pages or excel sheets to work. Not to mention that it turns into fire if I am working and charging at the same time. I really don't know what to do.

Intel is entering into the same issue Apple had when the switched to Apple silicon SOC to take full advantage of it software has to be optimized and almost 3 years later a lot of mainstream apps still only maybe utilize 50-50% of what the hardware is capable of
