I was a Navy SAR Swimmer, loved the collateral duty, back in 1977-1980 it was just part of the job for my rate. "So others may live" Go Navy SAR Swimmer.

Flying and being a Rescue Swimmer was the best Job I ever had anywhere. 1976-1982. I have to admit that flying the Admirals around was very good duty. three years in the western Pacific Stationed in Japan aboard the Oklahoma City and the Blue Ridge going from port to port. Too many ports of call to list. Crossed the equator twice. (Trusty Shell-back) We pulled up along side a Russian Aircraft Carrier once. The Cold War. Like they tell you below, a SAR Swimmer is a collateral duty, but I was an Avionics Petty Office 2nd working on the SH-3A.

Im debating whether on going Navy vs Coast guard. Coast guard looks like they have a higher quality living standards but navy is offering me a huge bonus for the same job I would have in the coast guard.
