It cost me the same for a package of 50 zip ties & 5yrs worth of weed eater string. Takes me about 5min to rewind my string cartridge & I have to do that twice per summer. The zip ties are about 3x as wide as my string but a bit thinner & I would bet that the string cuts better than the flat side of the zip tie. Both are plastic & will get destroyed against cement or rocks.

I tried it with some longer, better quality zip ties. This stuff shreds and last forever! I can't believe I've been buying cord and running out at the worst times my entire adult life! When in doubt, use a zip tie! 😂

Just buy a real quality weed whacker and you’ll never once have a problem breaking or unspooling string lol..

Did this for my yard. Ate through the zip ties like crazy.. had to run out for more. Yard typically takes me 10 mins to trim. This took me 1.5 hours. I believe in your hacks though so I'm not going to ever go back to the string even though that was way faster.
