I agree, i would love a camera with the option of super35 in 4k but I just dont want to lose the readout speed of my a7siii. If i had the a7cii i would probably have a 24mm fullframe lens on it most of the time, that way I’ve got a 24mm and a 35mm (approx) in one lens by using FF and S35

I agree with all that you said - I love this camera - the main thing for me is the fact that it can still do eye AF in clear image zoom! this is HUGE - and it works in 4k60 too - so if you have a 20m prime - you now have a 20-40 with full auto focus.

I few additional features/capabilities... besides having a great travel camera for photo & stills... the Super35 file produces a 7K file downsampled to 4K that is super crispy. Also, you can use Clear Image Zoom and get even more zoom range (without changing lenses)!

I just bought one last week and I love it. I unnecessarily waited 6 months thinking it would go on sale, but it didn’t and probably won’t, because it’s a tiny monster and more people are waking up to it. It’s gonna be my daily driver for personal photo/video with compact lenses so I can keep my FX3 for business projects, plus it makes a great B cam for the FX3. Just a beast of a role player in the line IMO. 🦾🫡

I love it! Used it in the US open and around nyc recently and it worked beautiful for photo and video! 100% I would add the base plate from small rig or something similar to make the pinky feel better haha

You can achieve the same results with the ZV-E1 by shooting in 24 or 60 fps and enabling Dynamic Stabilization. As long as you avoid shooting at 120 fps, you can apply the crop when needed, which is how I've been using the ZV-E1. I also have the A7IV, but I primarily need the second base ISO for night shooting, as my A7IV has been producing noisy footage in low-light situations. The E1 is about the same price and you can even get it around $1800.00.

I just picked this up with the Sigma 24-70 II and I have to say this camera is a beast and im happy with the purchase.

you could always just clear image zoom to 1.5x in full frame. it's still an 8mp output, which is 1:1 4k

I think that super35 is still the way to go. Most people can't even see the different in the final image. And using cinema lenses are way better to use on a super 35/APSC sensor

Worth checking out the ZV-E1 also, the AI chip from A7R5, the sensor from the FX3, the conveniences of a pretty impressive built in directional mic, tiny body but still 4k120, 10bit 4:2:2, dual native with the second ISO at 12, 800 for INSANE low light video performance, the second native of ISO1600 for photos also giving you unmatched dynamic range in subpar condition. Also super fast read outs for much lower rolling shutter - a lot of advantages over the A7C2 for video, no APS-C crop in 4k60 too.

Agree with your super 35 point and would add that it’s better for long form studio content and livestreams than the ZV-E1 due to better heat management

Nice, Panny S5ii also a solid competitor to this body.

Everything you said is exactly why I bought the A7CII two weeks ago

Just use clear image zoom. Most apsx lenses in some way covers touch more than super35mm so. Ideally with clear image zoom you could even get more out of your apsc lens than using an apsc camera. And you save a hole lot of money

We do this all the time in the a7siii with the sirui anaormph 1.33x lenses. No problem

Replacing a near-perfect video camera like the A7SIII with A7CII would be horrendous to most people. Why not just get the A7Rv or at least A7CR? I would rather get FX30 in that regard.

The A7 IV typically has better battery life and more advanced connectivity options, including dual card slots and better ergonomics and handling. I am Still using A7IV with GM Lenses.

people keep saying that the A7C II is the a7m4 in an APS-C body with a single card slot, but I say it's rather an A6700 with the sensor of the A7m4. Hardware wise it is even more limited than the a6700, but pro people may know better. I bought the A7M4 because it's ergonomics come closer to the a77ii I used than any other sony camera that is not the a99ii. It is big, it is heavy and has a lot of buttons but I wish it had more and was even heavier. If I am going to use heavy lenses (tele main) I would like the a7IV to weigh over 700 grams but that is just a very niche personal preference. I just think it balances out much better than having a 500g body and a 3kg lens. Plus, i just keep chuckling when I see western Caucasians holding Sony cameras, they look tiny on their hands, but then I grab them and they almost fit my entire palm.

I often use my A7IV over the FX3 … I just love the ergonomics, the ability to be hybrid and I mostly shoot in 4K crop mode on the 24mm GM … this little beast looks just as good but no dual cards or HDMI 😢

I think it's very possible an FX3 or FX4 6K camera sensor option for everything you just described. But who knows. The FX9 6K sensor has been around for an age now, but only really exists in that camera, partly because for whatever reason the FX9 had a lot of limitations regarding framerates. So maybe a processor generation bump, using the FX9 sensor could be the next generation of FX6 and FX3 might be 6k with a 4k s35 crop.

Nice video James, makes perfect sense about swapping the cameras, great option for people in similar position.
