Growing up around grown ups drugs that were drug addicts made me never want to be around any drugs not even prescribed.

Advocating for peoples freedom of choice is not encouraging people to do drugs, he’s not saying “you should do heroin” he’s saying we should have the freedom to do heroin if we do choose and it should be safe and not judged, that is not a crazy thing at all. People who vilify drug users do not understand much about drug use nor are they any sort of moral paragon

As a former addict I can say there is a very thin line that can be easily & unknowingly crossed that takes you from a functional recreational user to a disfunctional addict. I was a functional user for over a decade & few knew. Self control & impulse are different for different ppl.

we are clearly not ready to have a real honest conversation about drugs because each valid point this professor is trying to make the media wants to ignore. We need to be honest about who really uses drugs, stop using it as a weapon to criminalize a certain minority group of people to use as a weapon against them, and be honest about how the drug companies may not be honest with the public about what is really in these drugs and how harmful they actually are.

I've been affected by the opioid epidemic personally and the biggest issue that heroin addicts face is the lack of supply of clean heroin. It's all stepped on and filled with deadly substitutes to make it last longer for the dealer. If it was fda regulated the deaths would go down.

I’ve seen up close the effects of drugs people of all walks of lives. I had the unfortunate luck of working on the baby unit of the babies born addicted to drugs. I’ve also seen people from very privileged backgrounds selling their derrière for drugs in the most unsavory neighborhoods. I think I’ll pass on that. I prefer yoga, acupuncture, meditation to relax, it is a lot cheaper and doesn’t require more and more amounts to feel “good.” Also people are dying because they build up tolerance and need larger and larger amounts or harder drugs to feel “good”

He’s an exception but we know that this is not for the average person, the biology has not changed on how drugs can destroy a nation. #get real

His statement that the drug war has targeted the poor and minority communities is true but advocating for drug use is crazy. I am embarrassed as a Black person to hear someone who is supposedly so intelligent speak as if doing drugs is harmless. Smh.

He may have points about the stereotypes & lack of knowledge with drug use; however, only someone addicted to heroin would try to make an argument that it’s ok to regularly do drugs like heroin. Being healthy isn’t just about eating healthy or exercising. What he is speaking of is not healthy.

I get what he’s saying... he’s trying to save lives by filtering the drugs, not by taking people off of them. People are going to do drugs anyway, so he’s saying why not make the drugs safer.

He's an addict who is justifying his addiction. He's been turned over to a reprobate mind and is attempting to deceive those without discernment. Misery likes company and the devil is a liar.

I mean Demi lovato almost died from it. She had strokes and a heart attack. He also has kids. It’s selfish and reckless

Read the book. That's all there is to it. He is unquestionably one of the leading minds in the field and has science to back up his argument, not just the anecdotal evidence of his own experience. This is important for all Americans, all people, but especially people in demographics that have been disproportionately impacted by the "war on drugs" aka "War on Marginalized People".

I hope he keeps that same energy when his kids start experimenting with drugs and become addicts

I'm actually in complete shocked that he actually admitted that he uses drugs on a regular basis 😳

He's just using an excuse to use drugs and wants it legalized. Why would anyone need to use drugs as another tool to balance his life? I'm not buying it.
