PICOPRESSO - Portable Espresso Upgraded

In the very recent past handheld espresso was more or less a distant fantasy than it was a true reality. Even though there are multiple accessories and compact options on the market, most if not all fall kind of flat. Fast forward Wacaco's new Picopresso claiming to "cafe quality espresso". Will it give me barista tingles?

I bought picopresso a week ago and I use it for cappuccino creation. After making some test I found the right amount and grind of coffee. Now my wife is happy and does not want to go anymore to her favorite coffee... she want me to do it... EVERY DAY! After pulling small amount I use it for a second filling of water and make myself another dose with same cake and use it as a light coffee with some milk and sugar and is still great :-)

Handgrinding coffee and making espresso with this can be a solid workout

I never even bothered checking out these handheld machines. Wow! Looks good, this little thing. Awesome for camping, way easier to travel compared to a flair. Carry this and a hand grinder, sounds like a good time.

Beautiful, small and easy to use on trips, in my personal opinion, it is better than carrying the Flair pro Thanks for your review 🌹

Great review! It’s so cool to me that I could travel with this, a great handheld grinder and handheld frother in a backpack and have great espresso or latte. It’s an innovative time in the third wave, and personally, I love it.

I'm a real sucker for this kind of volumetric efficiency

If it feels hot to you, someone who steams milk, just imagine how it would feel to someone brand new to espresso, though that may not be who they're courting with this. I'm impressed by the inclusion of a WDT, and the fact that the funnel+tamper actually self level is something I think should be universal.

Shoot now I want one for travel. Paired with a good hand grinder and this will be exactly what I've been looking for for the suitcase.

Nice little unit. Finally a hand held espresso device I would consider buying.

Bit of a throwback here Spro! So I normally use a cafelat robot at home but when I was travelling back to ireland for the holidays I bought a picopresso to go along with my kinu as a travel kit. Using the same coffee as I had with the robot I was surprised to find that I enjoyed the results even more from the pico than with the robot and wanted to dig into why. so there'll definitely be a different water profile between the two countries, which is something I can't test for now but the other thing must be temperature. I was preheating the pico and running a tank of boiling water through it and then doing the usual preinfuse of 12ish pumps, letting it sit for about 10 seconds and then pulling my shot. I'll have to try putting a thermometer into the tank and hopefully be able to pull a shot without it spilling all over the place so I can compare to the robot temperature but if that doesn't work then maybe I can just compare temperature in the cup and infer from there? I've now got a temperature controlled kettle and I suspect that I was putting water that was too hot for my coffee through the robot and over extracting compared to the pico. Does this sound like good thinking or am I totally off? Cheers!

I was thinking about getting a Nanopresso to pack back and forth to the family orchard on work days but the Picopresso looks even better. Maybe by the time it’s back in stock I’ll have figured out my grinder situation. The folding arm of the Timemore Nano and X models looks great for travel...my budget says try to make do with the titanium or E&B Nano but that X looks so much shinier and has more settings for espresso!

One year later, how is it holding up? Any issues you've found over the year? Thank you for the insight!

Just for the clarity - can you please compare in writing the final thought about difference between the picopresso and lever machine like the cafelat robot?

Interesting review, I decided to purchase this to give it a go as my xbar still has not arrived that I backed on kickstarter back in June.
Will be interesting to see how this pairs with my timemore nano grinder

I just got one of these today. I pulled a shot earlier, it was smooth with nice sweetness at the end. I just wish i had a good grinder, because at the moment, i have to stick with a stepped manual grinder with quite large adjustments. I guess I just have to go with what I have. Overall though, I love the build quality of the Picopresso. I definitely agree with the insulation problem, i almost burned my hands earlier.
