How To Get Multichannel MIDI From A Plugin To Your DAW

I recently discovered it's not easy to get multichannel MIDI from a plugin to your DAW so I put together an explainer on how to do it - and some other methods you might consider when using plugins that generate MIDI data on multiple channels, such as Scapeshift, the generative groovebox I built.

Scapeshift is a generative groovebox that doesn't use AI. Build music quickly based on themes, tweak everything to your taste, or let it wander in realtime.

Ableton midi "flattening" was a show stopper for me.

If you’re just using the patterns generated without morphing between them, you can solo each engine and get the individual MIDI tracks one at a time. Not a great solution, but gets it done if that’s all you need..

Hi - just seen the vid. I've been an Elements user for years - admittedly I'm a paid user but the free version is usually only a couple of minor versions behind - and I don't have any issues with Reaktor in the Mac version. In any case, the dev is incredibly responsive. If anyone is still struggling getting Reaktor to load in Element reply to this comment and I'll report it on the Discord channel...cheers...!

I got midi out with scapeshift to work in reaper.
Just had to turn the main (scapeshift vst channel )down i believe.
Took me sum tinkering but it did work.

Reaper allows very flexible midi routings so i didnt have much problem once i tinkered enough.

I triggered NI massiv and others with scapeshift.

I personally love the sound of scapeshift alone so i just use a couple tracks from it at a time anyways.

That's all super great. I understand the limitation of midi. Is there a way to route the audio engines to channels in a daw for further editing? Also using Reaktor standalone how would you suggest recording the output?

I tried to tweak the ensemble to spit out trigger signals to my DC coupled interface, to trigger drums in Eurorack, but couldn't quite get that working. Would LOVE to see if that were possible as the drum sequence in scapeshift is really nice 😊

im confused how to setup scapeshift in stand alone reaktor to send to multiple midi outs? Only channel is selectable but not actual midi out port?
