Years ago my daughter was in a special needs class. I would go once a month with the class to the YMCA just to help out. There was a little boy about 6 or 7 that head butted one of the teachers while there and broke her nose. She ended up having surgery and a awful time with it. Yes, small kids can hurt an adult.

My wife was the first worker’s compensation claim in labor and delivery at our local hospital when a 5 year old absolutely destroyed the classroom before throwing a chair at her(she was eight months pregnant) the mom claimed it was my wife’s fault and claimed race was the issue(my wife was white and the student was black) didn’t stop the other black student from trying to protect my wife and catching a chair as well.

My husband is a special Ed teacher aide. Depending on the students, sometimes he feels more like a security guard to protect the other adults than doing anything education related. He seriously makes a significant effort to be in the best shape of his life so he can do it. Yeah, these aggressive, dangerous attacks are very real.

Teachers shouldn't have to deal with missbehaved students. Public schools should be a privilege not a right, if they prevent others from learning then they should be homeschooled.

Most people are not aware that many special education teachers are injured by students across our country. It's difficult to cast blame on any one entity due to the complex nature of special education law, individual student needs and rights, and the limitations of our public school systems. A definite problem, in the myriad of problems plaguing our systems, that has never been solved.

Parents need to start taking responsibility for their children's actions

Its why i couldn’t be a teacher, the second the kid even attempted to push a bookshelf on her, these hands are rated E for everyone. If the kid ain’t being beat at home he gonna be beat today

MY god, I thought the only thing a 5 year old could hurt, is a teacher's feelings! This is shocking news to me. I never saw anything like that when I was a 5 year old in school!

Then investigate the parents of the child. If the child is acting like that to others, then at home the child is being treated the same or encouraged to behave that way.

Spare the rod, spoil the child. Please tell me the parent(s) are taking full responsibility for the actions of their child? Probably not.🤦‍♂️

I sat in on a class with my son in second grade and the kids were absolute animals in the class. Hurting each other, disrupting class, etc… plus what they’re served in school is disgusting and clearly malnutrition… I had to take my kid out of public schools where I live. From what I’ve noticed, It’s the parents’ lack of parenting and the schools very “traditional” ways of running things. Anyone else notice this in their kids’ schools?

This is what happens when you let the government "parent" for you

Idk why they wouldn't have the bookcases bolted down around children. This is the 3rd time the child attacked her. He needed to be transferred to a class with a teacher physically capable of restraining him or that at least had an assistant teacher

are you serious? did any of you listen....? she is a special ed teacher. meaning she is SUPPOSED to be trained in working with special ed kids. which are literally known to act out in extremes and can be very physical.

There’s so many things wrong here… Parenting, how we treat teachers, and the lack of resources teachers have! This is a special needs classroom too which means it needs even more resources than the average class.

“Extreme Needs” children should not be in regular schools. I have witnessed very serious situations. We had a teacher at our local school bite a teacher’s forearm and pull a chunk of her flesh, and ended up in the emergency room. This isn’t news; it’s been going on for a long time. Public schools have been forced to provide free daycare for these kids. Safety to staff and other students should come first.

As the husband of an elementary teacher, I know this happens way more often than reported. Chairs thrown, head butting, etc. Children these days are out of control and the parents accept zero responsibility. Social media also gave megaphones to the dumbest, loudest people on the planet so schools are constantly walking on egg shells. The teachers aren’t allowed to say no.
A child in my daughters kindergarten class physically and verbally attacked both the teacher and other students for weeks. Parents blamed it on ADHD, but kept taking him off meds cold turkey like he was a science experiment. My daughter was struck in the head from swinging headphones like a lasso. The parents threatened with a lawsuit for not accommodating the kids needs, but refused to accept an IEP to get him help. They wanted the school to pay for a full time aide just for their kid.
TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR CHILDREN PEOPLE.

Special Ed classes can be dangerous. I remember working in a special Ed class and some kids are big and aggressive despite their age. They snap very quickly and out of nowhere. I remember getting a pencil thrown at me. Almost got my eye.
