Excerpt from my video “ambulatory wheelchair users exist”

An ambulatory wheelchair user is someone who uses a wheelchair who has a limited (anywhere from just a single moment to longer periods of time) ability to walk among other physical capabilities but still needs their wheelchair for a variety of medical reasons.

I love your video. I know when I was younger I have had many family and friends that when I started to have to use a wheelchair think that I just needed to get some "exercise" and walk like a "NORMAL" Person. From my experiences, I have been treated as if I could even stand or move my foot a single Millimeter that I didn't need my chair, and or as if I didn't need help or any accommodations. This has not only affected me when it has come to family and friends but even in medical settings and even in my living situations. I have always felt like I have had to "PROVE" that I am disabled for people to be willing to provide any accommodations or assistance when I have needed it. I know this can be very harmful to the disabled person when everyone else decides they know how you the disabled person is feeling and they think they know what is best for your wellbeing. Can you please make a full in-depth video explaining this and the different risks etc?
Thank You for the video.

Yay, ambulatory wheelchair user awareness! I got the "ambulatory wheelchair users exist" t-shirt from your merch store and I love it when people ask me about it when I wear it!

Yep, this is me! I can walk about 1/2 mile some days but standing still is hard. Most of the time I don't use the wheelchair but for festivals, airports, and when I am feeling worse it is a big help. My boyfriend has me use it if we need to get somewhere fast. because I can't walk fast.

this is great, i will share this. I can remeber when i was at school that i knew some abilitory wheelchair users and i never questioned them because it felt wrong and because although i'm not a wheelchair user i had bee shamed and questioned about my disabilities previously so i did not want to make people feel how i felt in those moments

yeah. im an example of someone who can walk but cant generally stand still. if im in motion my joints are generally ok. but if i stop, my back is no longer able to hold vertebrae in alignment. i can extend my time with my cane. but i really need a wheelchair so that i can stay upright when working on things.

I’m a Ambulatory wheelchair user, only time I use them is when I’m at church because my church building is big and I would be lightheaded and my pulse would be high and I wouldn’t be able to focus on the service if I am having problems. I occasionally use the mobile carts at the grocery store for the same reason, I want to be able to do my shopping without having any problems.
