Going from 2 12's in a custom b'ox to 2 15's in a custom box in my case was a massive difference. The lows are way nastier and these 15's broke a weld on my roof lmao.

When I first got involved with car audio it was because of people that I knew were driving around with systems that had woofers amplifiers crossovers and sound that I never heard in a car before. At first I started copying them, my first system had 2 twelves in a ported box with a monoblock amp. Everything else I had running off of a four Channel amplifier. Then when base became popular bigger amps more woofers things got completely out of hand it became an obsession.
Came a time in my life when I realized in my opinion what kind of sound I like. In my opinion I want to be able to close my eyes and it should sound like the band is in the room with me. I'm not a bass-head anymore . I'm not looking to get it to the point where my windows are going to break where I'm going to Rattle the house for my AV system for instance. There's nothing like listening to a system that sounds like the actual band is in your listening area to me that's accurate sound. That's what I enjoy now. I know everybody goes through different stages of this Hobby.

Do a comparison with an 18” next. Lol for “scientific purposes” 😂

this was pretty much as expected. as DB is literally a measure of pressure, larger diaphragm will obviously make more pressure with equal power as long as the power supplied is sufficient to make full effect of the diaphragm. it's literally math and science.

Hell yeah. Finally some 15s. Man I can't wait for this series. Awesome job.

I just did this exactly in the cab of my truck. Single EVL12 to the single EVL15. All else is the same setup. The 12 was a beast, but the 15 just Hammers the hell out of the cab. It seems to hit hard effortlessly down low, and just ruined my rearview mirror mount. Love me some Skar's!!

What a great comparison. There’s a million ways to say this is a “non scientific” or incomplete test. Thing is it’s so real world, especially if you consider what most people are going to do. Thank you for making this great video.

I agree with others - time for 15 v 18!

I like that the 15 box doesn't really take up much more space. That's a big part of the decision for a daily. If space doesn't matter, 15 all the way

It's about moving air to build pressure. If you look at the cone area x xmax you get the volume of air you're moving. You're absolutely right on matching the box as well. If you go too high or low the sub won't be able to move air as efficiently needing more wattage to do the same same amount of work.A poorly sized box will absolutely kill output.

I've had systems since 1990 and I've never heard that 12s and 15s were same volume. The more displacement of cone area the louder it will be with everything else being equal

My life in car audio has shown me that the box is just as important if not more important than the subs going into it. They can completely change the way a sub sounds and how it responds to different music types. Yet for SPL I've found cone size is the key, and the bigger the better, but there is a point of diminishing returns due to the limited space of the vehicle, power available, and price.

Great review, I've ran Sundown SAv2 12's & 15's, Rockford P3 12's & 15's as well as the American Bass Hawk 12's and 15's, the 15's have always played louder on identical power and sounded better. I love the 15" hawks the most

Dope video bro! Once I heard 15s I never went back to 12s 🔊😎

First that was a great video. For those who don’t understand how perceived volume vs decibels compare, every +3db is twice as loud when measured by a professional meter but the human ear requires +10db. Therefore, +3db on the meter will sound like 33% louder by the human ear on average. Please remember all ears are different and that is why you use a professional db meter. Cheers!

For SPL one 12 vs one 15, cone area will always be king.
But the King doesn't always have to be bigger. Try four 12s against two 15s. The scenarios are endless, it's always going to be cone area no matter what the size.

I don t have experience with spl meter, but when i installed in big box with 1 subwoofer 12 inch, I imstalled another one, since low volume you geel differnce more upper freq response and more low end freq response as per my expierence
