publishing research in high school seems so unattainable... at least that's how i felt before i was able to do it myself, at the age of 17 too! in this video i talk about how i was able to publish my own research paper as a high school student, and provide some insight onto the research review and publication process.

disclaimer: this video is based on my own personal experience from publishing research with the Journal of Emerging Investigators. i'm not an expert nor do i claim to be, and i'm merely hoping to provide my own insights on this somewhat unfamiliar area for many high school students!

Hey Hayley! I am an editor at the young scientists journal for CS and physics. I was overwhelmed to see our journal’s name in your video, thanks! :)

Great Job, Hayley. I can see your work was done by yourself. It's the real purpose of research. I didn't know there are a handful of platforms for HS publications. Thanks for your video. I'll encourage my son to publish his research paper which he is still working on for his AP research on one of your suggested journals.

Thanks for the all the tips and guidance Hayley, I’ve recently finished a 20 page paper relating to the topic of alcoholic fermentation that’s going to be presented at a university’s academy of science. I’m glad I can take steps to have my work potentially published at the age of 16! Again thank you!!!!

How did you chose your research topic and how did you come up with a problem to do research on? Can you give a guideline over how you to select a problem to do research and write a manuscript?

That is really amazing and helpful! Good job! I thought it would be interesting for students in my school to learn how to publish their research. Thanks and keep going!

Thank you so so much. I live in India. It's not common here. I want to start my English literature research paper writing from grad school. I know I'll have to do it mostly alone and Independently. Thank you so so much!

Its great you showed some pathways. But it lacked basic information like how to select a topic, how to collect data for research, how to analyze it, what methods were used, how many steps were involved, etc. This is bulk of the work. You shared like the last steps of publishing.

Is the process any different for social sciences? I'm a high schooler doing research on imperialist biases found in history textbooks. I don't have an "experiment" per se, but it's organized and systematic, and it would be awesome to publish my findings.

Great work!! I have a question- does it have to be in an experiment-result format? As in, does the experiment have to be carried out, or is it alright if it is derived and proven mathematically? I'm writing a paper on astrophysics, and it's not exactly possible for a high schooler to have access to advanced tech required for a lot of experiments :(

Hi! I recently got a spot in a lab for the summer, and I was invited to stay for the school year, which I would love to do, but I’m worried I won’t be able to, as I’m starting my first year of IB this coming school year; I’ve heard to expect at least 5 hours of homework a night. Do you have any tips on how you managed your time during the school year and were able to balance IB and research?
