US sanctions Belarus over journalist flight arrest

The United States as joined forces with Britain, Canada, and the European Union to impose sanctions on several senior officials in Belarus over what has been described as continuing concerns over human rights.

These sanctions follow the arrest of a journalist critical of Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko after his flight was diverted from Lithuania to Belarus.

The sanctions will affect the Belarusian government and imports of key industries like chemicals and crude oil.
