Super worthwhile to fix these. Just finished my 2467B that I was unexpectedly gifted and it's awesome. Getting to that power supply isn't exactly a picnic, but can be done. Dig it out slow and methodically. All the little comb headers have to be gently pulled up and out; do not bend those. The plastic on mine were all super brittle and it's easy to snap the little latch. Also there's an error in the layout designation sheet in the service manual for the caps so I just replaced mine one at a time; one of them is transposed with its neighbor. Did all that though and bam back up and running. I lucked out on the SRAM and read mine before data was lost and replaced it with a new Dallas and just dumped the old data back in. Seems fine to me for what it is. Maybe someday I'll get FRAM and no more battery. Anyway, great vid. Love the offspring. Smart kid. I was shy just like him too at that age. Still am.

I am so lucky that I had a teacher who gave me a Tektronix 2465, it helped me so much with my electronic projects :)

Thank you Dave and Sagan for this awesome video! Sagan is so cute and so smart. All smiles! Really appreciate the dedicated mailbag for just this one package. Hope you can get one of them working and make good use of it. And you pronounced my last name perfectly! Given my obscure name and your history with bad pronunciations, I feared the worst. Thanks again!

That kid knows more about electronics that any one in my class... :D Good job! Amazing to see him say "It's a scope" and he is so young... Cool.

That "It's a scope, daddy!" reminded me of my childhood when my father let me play with his scope (I always liked playing with the focus and intensity when it was in X/Y mode and watching the dot get bigger or torn the timebase to 5s and seeing the dot slowly scanning across the tube). There is a photo of me sitting on his lap while "we" were repairing the TV. He explained to me how the thing worked although I (literaly) didn't understand a word! :D I was like three months old at the time. He's the reason why I am so interested in electronics today.

Now there's a Tek 2430A digital CRT scope sitting right behind me on my electronics desk with a dead NVRAM chip and the new "sample" replacement chips from Maxim are on their way. Next to it a PeakTech 4000 digital multimeter with a broken ohms range. Both are dumpster dives from the electronics assembly and development facility I am working in during my university breaks. Yoink!

I would love to see a repair video for these.

Here in the UK a refurbished 2465B still fetches quite a bit of money because people recognise them as probably the best 'scope ever made. The 2465 series could also be considered as the last of the repairable oscilloscopes which probably adds to their popularity.

I will keep my own 2465B alive as long as I can and since I'm now retired it might even outlast me!

Definitely a great candidate for a repair, especially since you have two of them if you have any blown hybrids. Also, if the lights flash and you dont see anything happening: try pushing the "a/b trig" button, this is the button to continue if the processor board found any problems and halted.

That "It's a scope" got me. Anyone could tell which one is your son from 1000 others

I really love my Tek 2465B 400MHz scope.  Loved the tear down because I am not going to tear mine down unless I have to fix it!  Your little helper there is a great add to the videos!  Thank you both!

I have a 2465 here rescued from a dumpster at NXP back in 2017, with calibration stickers as recent as 2016, accompanied by a single Phillips 300MHz probe. Still works great. I'm getting a proper DSO soon but I'll keep it around.

I'd avoid the B for two reasons:
1. Crappy quality SMD caps on A5 board. They tend to leak and damage traces and other nearby component. SMD makes them more difficult to replace.
2. The Dallas NVRAM is usually living on borrowed time. Once it's 30+ year old battery dies, all the calibration data goes "poof". Replacing of the NVRAM and recalibration will likely be required.

I'd opt for the 2465.
