45 years after Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour filmed ‘Live At Pompeii’ in the legendary Roman Amphitheatre there, he returned for two spectacular shows that took place on 7 & 8 July 2016, part of his year-long tour in support of his No.1 album ‘Rattle That Lock’. The performances were the first-ever rock concerts for an audience in the stone Roman amphitheatre, and, for two nights only, the 2,600 strong crowd stood exactly where gladiators would have fought in the first century AD.
‘David Gilmour Live At Pompeii’ is an audio experience on its own, while the audio-visual spectacle features lasers, pyrotechnics and a huge circular screen on which specially-created films complement selected songs. Paramount, however, is the incredible music: the show includes songs from throughout David's career, as well as many Pink Floyd classics, including 'One Of These Days', the only song that was also performed at the band’s 1971 show.
Both concerts also saw very special performances of 'The Great Gig In The Sky' from 'The Dark Side Of The Moon' which David rarely plays as a solo artist. The 2-disc concert CD was produced by David Gilmour, and mixed by Andy Jackson and David Gilmour. The 148-minute concert film includes highlights from both shows, filmed in 4k by director Gavin Elder. DVD and Blu-ray versions contain an extra 7-minute documentary by Gavin Elder ‘Pompeii Then And Now’, while the Deluxe Blu-ray 4-disc box contains the 2xCD version, the 1xBlu-ray version, and a full 207 minutes of extra footage: 11 live performances and 5 documentaries, plus bonus collectables. Vinyl lovers can enjoy a deluxe 4xLP version in gatefold sleeves and a hardback slipcase, plus a 24-page photo booklet.

‘David Gilmour Live At Pompeii’ shows an artist at the top of his artistic game, performing incredible material with his world-class band, in a unique setting on one very special occasion.

*ABOUT DAVID GILMOUR*

A Cambridge friend of Syd Barrett, David joined Syd, with Roger Waters, Richard Wright, and Nick Mason, in Pink Floyd in early 1968, only for Syd to leave the group five gigs later. Pink Floyd's subsequent huge worldwide success continued after Roger Waters' departure in 1985, with the albums A Momentary Lapse Of Reason and The Division Bell both charting at No. 1 in the UK and the US, and sell-out world tours. Rattle That Lock released in 2015 and David’s 4th solo album, went to No. 1 in 13 countries. In 2017, Live at Pompeii released as a live album and film which was recorded at the Amphitheatre of Pompeii.

I can't describe in words what this man's music makes me feel. There is no-one who can pierce your soul with just one note. Gilmour is the greatest guitarist/musician in the history of mankind.

I played this beautiful piece of music to my dog in the chapel of rest before she was cremated. I used to play certain Pink Floyd or David Gilmour songs to her during thunderstorms because she was frightened of them, songs like Shine on part one for example are quite calming to listen to and i think it helped her. She heard a lot of Pink Floyd in her lifetime. Miss you Tess ❤.

I will never forget how I felt when Gilmour hit the very first notes when I saw him live this year in Champigny near Paris
Can't wait to see you again in Rome

I have been a Pink Floyd fan since 1972, and they've spired me ever since, especially Mr David Gilmour. This is by far the best version of Comfortably Numb, a fitting goodbye to David's incredible and iconic 'Black Strat'. Thank you for the music and memories, see you soon Mr Gilmour. 😊

I could listen to this guy all day long, his music takes me to places far away from all the troubles and heartache within me at this time. My wife of 43 years has just been diagnosed with terminal cancer, I am dying with her, Thank you David Gilmour for lifting my heart with your music.

Sounds of velvet. David Gilmour, the man who create the silk strings concept, in electric guitar.

I was very lucky to watch this concert from the stage side at the Albert Hall in London. His first note had everyone so emotional. It was like - oh my God, this is David Gilmour right here in front if us doing his magic. Even got goosebumps writing this. A concert that I will never ever forget. Much love DG and PF fans
