A wacky idea or practical concept? The Saunders Roe A1 was the world’s first jet fighter flying boat. In this podcast we visit the aircraft at the Solent Sky Museum and Andy Jones meets JO Lancaster, one of the original test pilots.

Wow what a man still going at 99 and definitely has not lost his marbles at all . I love hearing these stories from test pilots with out them we would not have made the advances in flight that we have made . Hats off to these amazing people !!

The markings include a 'P' in a circle on some of the images. What colour are these? Does 'P' denote that an aorcraft is a prototype?

In the end it was not surprising that Saunders Roe went out of business, considering all the failed flying boat designs they came up with. This was a real flying turkey.
